Vastu Tips For Students & Scholars:
Vaastu Shastra can be beneficial for enhancing the educational concentration in students. Some solutions need to be adheared to enable your children to score well and concentrate in their studies.
The first and foremost
thing is that the house itself should be Vastu complient.
Students should face
East but those going for higher studies need to face North.
The entry of the study
room should be from Northern N/E, Eastern N/E, Southern S/E or Western N/W.
Some points are mentioned below for the betterment of the
students.
1. The study room
should be located in the East, North or the North East of the house.
2. Studying and
learning facing the East is recommended but for those going for higher studies
should face North.
3. Make sure that your
child is not studying sitting under a beam. If present go for a false ceiling
or can be mended by interiors. Feng-Shui flute may not be effective.
4. Make sure that no
mirror is left uncovered at the night.
5. Since pillars,
columns, sharp pointed edges of furniture, open shelves etc act as obstructions
and distracts concentration, make sure to curve the edges.
6 .Place the study
table facing East or North for students going for higher studies to ensure that
while studying the child is facing either of these directions. South not
prefered at any cost.
7. Do keep the study
table away from the wall.
8. There should be
open space in front of the child to encourage fresh ideas and approach. The
child should not have a door behind him.
9. Place a soothing
painting or poster with soothing effect. Do not place the book-shelves on the
Eastern wall and not above the study table in front.
10. Ensure that the
study table is not cluttered with heaps of books.
11. A wooden chair is
best with a slight cotton cushion.
12.The study room
should be brightly lit or as per the need.
13. Adequate amount
natural light & air is a must. While studying the shadow of the child
should not fall on the study table.
14. A study lamp
should be placed on the left to energize concentration.
15. The light should
be bright but not too harsh on the eyes.
16. Children's room
should be vibrant and cheerful, avoid too much of dark and dull colours in this
room.
17. Playing
inspirational and soothing music in the children's room is very effective as
studies and music goes together, as the case may be.
18. An Aquarium can be
placed in the study room.
19. Ensure that your
child sleeps with his head towards South or West avoiding North.
20. Place some
newspaper or comics as the student deserves near your child's bedside or study
table.
21. Hang framed
certificates or display trophies etc won by the child on the South wall.
22. Lastly, some Yogic practices be practiced to increase
concentration.

THE EIGHT CARDINAL DIRECTIONS
In the science of Vaastu
Shastra eight major directions have been identified, on which all
activities are based. Every direction has its own significance. As per Vaastu
Shastra documentation, if the living and working spaces are oriented
according to these directions, it has a direct positive influence on the
residents. The layout of a House and the corresponding
functions of each room have been prescribed in Vaastu Shastra.
SIGNIFICANCE OF DIRECTIONS IN VASTU SHASTRA
According to Vaastu
shastra, the entire universe exists in endless space and has
no direction whatsoever. However, on Earth our directions
are defined with respect to the Sun, due to the existence of magnetic
field. All the eight directions are governed by different Gods
who have their own respective influences on human beings as described below.
Here, I have explained the eight cardinal directions and the preferred rooms
in each direction, according to Vastu Shastra. Since Vastu
is a science, there is logic and reasoning behind every guideline. As an
Architect, I have attempted to explain these guidelines rationally and scientifically,
so that you can decide what you want to follow and what you don’t.
East (Purv) is ruled by the Sun or Surya god.
The East, from where the Sun rises represents the essence of all
beginnings. It is recommended that the main doors and windows of a house
face East. The Logic-This is both as a sign of veneration to the Sun
and also a way to optimize the amount of sunlight and air entering the
building early morning, since the UV rays of the morning sunlight can
engulf the interior of the house and kill all the bacteria that
would have multiplied during the night.
North (Uttar) is ruled by the god of wealth, Kuber.
The North is the direction of the Pole star, the fixed point in
the sky that denotes stability and security. Hence, this is the direction
to transact all business and so the main door and Living room can
be placed here. Open spaces can be placed here as well. The Logic -Therefore,
the Main entrance door can be here. Also, the Living room can be
on this side as it is close to the main door and convenient for business
transactions, since the outsiders will be entertained here. In India,
(being in the northern hemisphere), there is constant light form the North.
Hence it makes sense to have open spaces in the North, so that the light
is not obstructed and can permeate into the House.
North-East (Eshan) is considered to be the direction of
the Supreme Being. Hence it is suggested that there be no dirt, garbage,
heavy structure or toilets or bathrooms in this direction.
It is preferable to have the Well or water source in this direction.
The Logic – This being the corner where the North and East directions
meet, it is the ideal place to have open space so that there
are no obstructions to the constant sunlight from the North and
the morning sunlight from the East. It also makes sense to have
the Water source (in ancient times there was generally an open
well) here, in the available open space, as the UV rays can purify
the water. Naturally it is not advisable to have toilets or a garbage
pit near the water source.
West (Paschim) is governed by the god of water, The Varuna.
As the sun dims we are reminded of endings, the unknown and darkness.
The West or Paschim should be avoided for sleeping.
However, bathrooms, toilets, staircases, store rooms can be
placed here. Trees can be planted here. The Logic – The West gets
heated up, both by the evening sun and by the reflection of it’s infrared
rays(IR) from the ground – thus retaining the heat till late at night.
Hence it is not comfortable to sleep here. Instead, less used rooms like Toilets,
Staircase rooms, Store rooms and Trees can be placed here as they will
serve as a buffer and prevent the rest of the house from getting heated
up. Also, the toilets and store rooms will remain dry and
hygienic.
North-West (Vaayavya) is the direction of the wind God, Vaayu.
In Vaastu it is recommended that this direction should be used
for toilets, garages, pantry etc. The Logic behind this is that North-West
also gets heated up by the evening sun. So the less used rooms like
Toilets, garage, pantry can be placed here as they will serve as
a buffer and prevent the rest of the house from getting heated up. Also, the
toilets and pantry will remain dry and hygienic.
South (Dakshin) is the direction of Yama, the god of death.
The South represents the past and our ancestry. Guest and Children’s
bedrooms can be placed here. No open space like gardens, Balconies,
Terraces should be in this direction. The Logic – This
side does not get too heated up nor too cold at night and hence is the ideal
place for Bedrooms. Also, by avoiding open spaces and balconies,
the sunlight reflected from the West to this direction is
obstructed and hence the house does not get heated up.
South-West (Nairutya) is the direction of Nairuti or
dissolution, the Demon Goddess of Wealth or The Sthir Lakshmi.
This is the direction where the owner of the building should
have his Master Bedroom, Wardrobes, Safe. The Logic – This
being the corner where the South and the West meet, it is
best to have a Master bedroom as the room can get good cross
ventilation. Since the owner sleeps here it makes sense to have his safe
and wardrobes here. Also the wardrobes should be on the West
wall to reduce the heat.
South-East (Agneya) is the direction of Agni, the god
of fire. This is the direction of heat, vitality and
energy. It is advised that all cooking and kitchen related
activity be in this direction. The Logic behind this is that the corner
can benefit from the germicidal UV rays of the morning sun.
Also in this position, the South-West wind direction does not
affect the fire flames (as in ancient times cooking was done in
open air).

However, Vaastu recommends not to lacing bookshelf above study table. It
may create undue stress for child.
- Best direction to construct a child’s room is
west. Apart from this, west, northwest, northeast & south east
directions can also be used for constructing kids’ room. Completely avoid
the south west direction.
- The centre portion in a kids’ room should be kept
empty always.
- Kids’ room Vaastu explains that green is the best
suited color for Kids room. The reason behind it is that green color is
associated with the freshness & peace.
- Bed should be placed in such a manner so that a
child while sleeping would face towards south or east direction.
- Furniture should be kept a few inches away from
the wall as when it touches the wall, it stops the flow of energy.
- The almirahs and cabinets should always be
located in south or west direction of the room.
- Sharp lights as well as spot lights should never
ever be used in kids’ room, as they tend to create mental strain.
- Up-lighters, when placed in the southeast corner
of children’s room, help promote health and generate positive energy.
- Study area should be clutter free in order to
boosts concentration and clutter free ambience is good for generating new
ideas.
- A west side bedroom is best for children. A
television should never be placed in the bedroom, but if it is necessary
it can be placed in north-west of the room.
- Door to your child’s room should not be opposite
to the bed. You can try placing it at an angle from the door.
- In children rooms children have to occupy the
Eshan corner for their studies, but don’t put any heavy items at Eshan
corner.
- The windows in the room should be opposite the
door and they should be designed in north or east direction.
- When up lighters are placed in southeast corner
of children’s room, they tend to create positive energy and promote
health.

Tapping Personalized Study Orientations

Take Note of Annual Updates
Do not let your child sit facing the Tai Sui, or with their back to the Three Killings, as this is sure to affect their ability to concentrate on their studies. Yearly afflictions overrule personalized Kua directions, so please take note of this.

Avoid Open Bookshelves

TEACH YOUR CHILD TO STUDY RIGHT
While feng shui can help remove some of the study and exam hurdles that every student is bound to face, remember that it cannot magically turn your child into a straight “A” student. Use of feng shui should be complemented by hard work as well as smart work. Teach your child how to study right so the hours of work put in do not get wasted. How? Here are some simple but effective ways:
1) The Input-Output Method – Avoid reading and re-reading everything to prep for a test. Ask your child to make notes while studying. When you re-write what you have read, and reorganize the knowledge such that it makes most sense to you, you trigger your retentive powers, but more importantly, your understanding of the knowledge. Once that knowledge clicks in your head, reproducing it in the exam hall becomes so much easier.
2) Use Colour Coding – The mind works best when you combine use of the different senses – and colour is an important aspect in this. Get your child a set of different highlighters for them to highlight different passages that they read. Use different colours for different themes. For example, use yellow for keywords, pink for symbolism, blue for characterization and so on. The mind recalls colour coded information much better than plain black and white test, so make use of colours!
3) Make Mind Maps – Another great way to organize information in the head is to make mind maps. These are diagrams used to structure, visualize and classify ideas and information. Everyone organizes information in a different way, so let your child work out what works best for him or her; but show him or her some common mind-mapping techniques first, then let him/her figure out the best way. 4) Limit Social Networking Sites – While Facebook and mySpace may be fun summertime activities, keeping your child social and sane when it’s more difficult to meet up with school friends, during term time it can become every parent’s nightmare! Make a deal with your child, and only allow computer chat during certain hours in the day, or only after homework has been completed. Someone has to lay down some law, so make your child’s life easy by being prepared to play bad cop once in a while.

hard but not getting results good enough for all the hard work you put yourself
through. Vastu is not a magic wand to get you on the top, but it redirects your

- The room to be
chosen for study should be in the east ,North or the North-East direction
of the house. These directions improve the absorption power and increase
the knowledge content. Along with that if the door of the room is also in
either of these directions , the result turns out to be the best.
- The study room
should have images of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Saraswati.
- The books in the
study chamber should be kept in the South-West , South or West direction
and not in the North - East .In addition to that if the north - east direction
bears heavy weight it shall pressurize the students' mind.
- Furthermore , if
the student studies on the table and chair , the table should not stick to
the wall .It should be at least 3 feet away from it . Along with that
unnecessary books should not be piled up on the table . Only the books
which are needed should be kept on the table. Load of books on the table
create unnecessary mental pressure on the mind .The study books should be
placed in the cupboard in the cabinet rather than in the open .And if the
shutter of the cupboard is kept shut , the flow of energy is constantly
maintained.
- If the learner
makes use of the Table lamp then the lamp should be kept in the South-East
corner of the desk. Plus if it is a square table then nothing like it.
Further the size of the study table should not be too big nor too small.
It should be just the size which is comfortable for the working of the
student. A big sized table diminishes the working capacity , whereas the
small table gives rise to depression.
- Moreover , if
possible , the walls of the study room should be light orange in color as
it is very auspicious and enhances the wishing power as well as supports
the speedy progress of mind.
- Along with that
, at the same time of study , the learner should use a pyramid cape as it
proves to be extremely beneficial . Not only that it embellishes the
remembering power and absorption.
- The student
should ensure that after studying when they go off to sleep , their head
is in the South direction . It helps in maintaining the magnetic balance
of the body and the earth.
- And last but not
the least, a pendulum watch is a must in each and every study room.
Vastu For Designing of Study
Room
Study room should be in the west portion of the house, but never be in the south-west and north west. Budha (Mercury), Guru (Jupiter), Chandra(Moon), Shukra(Venus) effect having a study room in the west direction, as mercury increases brain power, jupiter increases ambition and curiosity. Moon helps in the generation of new thoughts and ideas. Venus helps in the growth of talent.
Color of walls in the study room should be green, light green, blue, cream, and white. Light colors are preferred uv er dark ones. The door of the study room should be in the north east of tote room. And windows should be larger on the eastern side and smaller on the western side of the room. Study table should be placed in a directions that the face of the student while studying is towards the north-east. Book rack and cabinets should be placed in the east, north, north-east direction, and never in south-west and northwest of the room.
If
books are placed in the north-west of the room there are chances of misplacing
or loosing the books. And the books are rarely used if placed in the south-west
of the room. No cabinets or tables should be placed in the center of the room.
It is best to leave the center portion of the study room empty.
How to have better studies
Vaastu is a science of structures or we can say creation of
harmonious energy field in a structure used to enhance the prospects of
inhabitants. It is an art of placing through which we can make balance in
negative & positive energies in structure. Here we present a brief analysis
of Vastu outlay for children that can help them in have better studies,
concentration and memory-
Regular shaped tables: Tables to be used for study should be in regular shapes like square, rectangle or perfect circle. Other shapes create confusion and do not let the concentration to be stable. Corners of the table should not be cut.
North facing: North Pole energy from the north direction makes you feel energetic. Always try to face north when you study, this adds to your concentration and do not let you feel tired. Do not block this direction, let the energy flow in. Give a looking glass on the north wall to enhance its effects.
Solid back: When you sit for study, there should be a solid wall on your back. Having a window or any opening at your back does provide you energy support and in turn you do not feel stable in concentration.
No obstruction: There should be free flow of energy in front of you. At least seven to eight feet of space should be available in front of you. For e.g. you should not put your table touching the wall. This will create an obstruction in flow of energy coming towards you. Some people create a big book shelf on the table itself this is done to make the things scattered but this is a flaw in flow of energies.
De-clutter: Clutter always create confusion, it would let you concentrate. De-clutter your old mails, notes, non working pens, junk stationary items etc. Make it a habit to de-clutter the area of study every day.
Colors: Use of lemon yellow, violet shades enhance the memory and concentration aspects. Yellow is the color of solar plexus chakra, this chakra is located below the chest; it is a centre of lower emotions (modernistic needs) in our body.
Yellow color available regulates the solor plexus and in turn emotions are regulated. Violet is a color for our crown chakra (located at the top of our head) this chakra is directly related to our higher emotions like spirituality, good character and stability of mind.
Violet shades let us concentrate on any issue and makes us calm and peaceful to decide for any situation. This is a divine color and gives us protection too.
Check the North West corner of house if it is higher than the southeastern corner it creates hurdles in getting the higher education. Analyze this corner in case you feel some body is aspiring for a higher education in your family. North West should be heavier and higher the opposite direction.

Here are some tips to feng shui the bedroom of your
child and create a positive environment for the kids.
· Keep
the room clean and
clutter free.
· There
should be no mirror or reflective surfaces facing the bed.
· Place
the bed in such a manner that there is a solid wall at the back or at least a
good headboard to encourage support and stability. Bed placement should not be
too close to the window or directly in line with the door. There should be room
to walk around each side of the bed. Avoid using bunk beds or metal beds.

· Use
soft and light colored bed linen on your child’s bed.
· Choose
a good sleeping direction based on the Kua Number preferably in the ‘wisdom and
education’ direction of the child so that your child gets better grades and

aquariums or fountains away from the child’s room as it can create yang energy.
· Put
positive pictures like a happy family photo facing the child’s bed which is
comforting to the eyes of a child and makes him feel secured.
· The
color of a child's bedroom
should be warm and nurturing. It is advisable to choose colors that are not too
bright. Colors like light blue, light pink, light yellow, beige, peach and
green are some good choices.
· Place
the study table in such a manner that the child’s back is not against the door

education is crucial as it represents an opportunity of escape. The bedroom or
study area is an important aspect of their development as well as the
surroundings you give them.
Feng Shui has been used for thousands of years for a child’s
education, and if you follow the tips below you will notice an improvement in
study and concentration.
Position of desk
Make sure your child is not sitting with their back against the
door, if this is the only way of arranging their room place a mirror so they
can see the door behind them.
Position of study chair
Make sure that nothing sharp or piercing is directed towards the
chair, as this will create more bad energy. Even a poster with arrows or
airplanes with weapons pointing towards room causes bad energy.
Study table surroundings
Have your child sit with his or her head facing the best study
direction and with solid support behind or a painting of a mountain scene to

is a calming and supportive color for a child’s room. You can even raise the

signifies growth; while yellow, the color of summer, stimulates creativity.

Red is energizing, but painting the walls in red is not a good

your home is connected to the flow of money
