Feng Shui Bathroom Decorating Tips
Feng Shui Bathroom Decorating Tips
The feng shui water, fire, metal and earth elements in a bathroom window.
Feng shui, which is translated as "wind and water," is the ancient Chinese art of changing the flow of chi or energy within a house. Although the bathroom is specifically associated with health in feng shui, using this system in your bathroom can help to enhance the wealth, health and happiness in your entire home. Does this Spark an idea?
The Five Elements of Feng Shui
In feng shui, you must use the five elements of wood, water, fire, earth and metal in proper balance. The bathroom naturally represents the water element. However, you can still use the water element in the form of an aquarium, sea shells or a fountain when decorating your bathroom. Bring in some natural potted plants such as ornamental bamboo to enhance the wood element. Add an extra mirror or two to increase the metal element. Add some candles and lights to enhance the fire element. Install tile or add pottery to bring in more of the earth element. Keep in mind that the color scheme you select will also increase one of the feng shui elements in your bathroom. Red and orange are fire, black and navy blue are water, brown and yellow are earth, blue and green are wood and white and gray are metal.
Using a Bagua
A bagua is a type of map that you can use to figure out how to use feng shui in your home. A bagua is octagonal in shape. It also has nine areas or guas, each of which corresponds to a different aspect of home life. There are several places online where you can download a bagua to print. Hold the bagua so that the sections representing "Knowledge," "Career" and "Helpful People" are facing you. Divide the space into nine sections using the bagua as a guide. If your bathroom is very small, stand at the threshold of the front door of your home and use the bagua to determine what role the bathroom plays. If your bathroom is large, use the bagua at its door to divide the bathroom into nine sections.
Changing the Energy Flow in the Bathroom
There are many places within the bathroom that can allow chi or energy to escape. If you have adequate ventilation, keep the door closed when the bathroom is not being used. Also close the lid to the toilet when it's not in use. Make sure that the plumbing is in good repair and there are no leaks. Also, turn off the lights when you leave the bathroom. You can also use one element to help balance another. For example, place a potted plant or a ceramic bowl full of pebbles on the toilet tank to increase the earth element and balance the water element.
How to Create Feng Shui for the Bathroom
Feng Shui Elements – Metal
In this week’s blog I have decided to concentrate on the areas of the home governed by the element metal. Metal is the fourth element in the creative cycle and as such is firmly in the yin area of the home covering both the children / creativy and the helpful friends areas. In this post I will share with you some useful insights in to how you can strengthen these areas of your home as well as guiding you in the basic principles of the metal element of the creative cycle.
Metal is represented both by metallic or shiny objects and circular or dome shapes. Excellent cures for strengthening the energies in the metal areas of the home are to place circular or dome shaped mirrors in silver metal frames on the walls of the rooms in these areas. In the creative cycle metal is supported and strengthened by earth so it is good to add plants in to these areas in circular metal tubs. When adding plants in to these areas always try and ensure that the plants are evergreen and if they are flowering that the flowers are white or cream as these are excellent colours for the metal areas of the home. Ideally any objects that you place in these areas should have flowing lines, avoid any objects that have sharp corners especially those that are pointed in shape as these are representative of fire which can destroy metal. If you do have objects that have sharp lines, and you would like to leave them in place as they have a special meaning for you rather than move them to another area of the home you can balance them with adding in objects that are circular or curved in shape. One client of mine placed a circular metal framed mirror behind one such object which not only helped to enhance the object in question but dispelled any negative energy that it caused.
Colours in this area should be muted, whites, creams and greys are excellent colours for these areas of the home. Bright colours where possible should be avoided both in decorations and in pictures or objects. If you do want to add a splash of a vibrant colour try and ensure that it does not draw too much attention. If you want to decorate a “feature” wall it is best in this area to go for a dark colour rather than a bright colour, or to add texture. Painting a room in cream and covering one wall in a dark fabric is much more beneficial in this area of the home than painting one wall in a bright colour. The maxim “less is more” could well have been created for just this area of the home.
I hope this short blog on the metal area of the home has given you some useful information on how to create positive and restful spaces in your children and creativity and helpful friends areas . I will finish this post with my top five tips for strengthening the energy in this area of the home.
Top Tips for strengthening the Metal areas of the Feng Shui home
When placing objects in the metal areas of the home try and ensure that objects are metal and have curved lines. Circular or dome shaped mirrors, lamps with shiny round metal bases and ornaments made out of silver are excellent enhancements to these areas of the home.
When hanging pictures in these areas of the home try and find pictures that are representative of autumn, the season that represents metal. Pictures of a harvest or of autumn leaves are excellent for this area of the home.
In the destructive cycle metal is destroyed by fire so keep candles to a minimum in these areas of the home. If you do want to display candles balance these out by placing them in circular metal or glass candlesticks and stick to white candles. As these are the children and creativity and helpful friends areas of the home it is good to place pictures of your children (if you have them) and friends in these areas. If you are displaying photographs in this area of the home it is excellent to place them in crystal or silver frames.
Colours in these areas of the home should be muted. Creams, whites and soft greys should be in abundance and if you want to add a feature wall cover with a soft sensuous fabric or a beautiful dark patterned wallpaper. If you want to ad contrast to your soft furnishings try and add a number of different textures as opposed to colours.
The architecture of our homes can damage our health, the air we breathe and the water we drink, without our even being aware of it. We all care about our homes and spend time, effort and money, trying to make them more comfortable. Similarly, at the places where we work, environmental stresses contribute to overall load, preventing us to reach our full potential. Resisting these external forces becomes more important for growth and development.

Vastu For Bedroom
A bedroom is a solitary sanctuary, a place that offers deep nurturing for the body and soul. However, despite its significance we tend to neglect this area while paying extra attention to the more “public” rooms of the house. Remember, a bedroom is the most important part of an accommodation as it’s linked to the inmate’s sleep, intimacy, solitude and dreams. Feng Shui
Feng Shui Your Bedroom
A Feng Shui bedroom - like any Feng Shui space - should always allow for the maximum flow of chi. By using the bagua chart, along with a balance of yin and yang to enhance the harmonious energies, you can transform your bedroom into a Feng Shui bedroom. This section will give you some examples and tips for your Feng Shui bedroom.
Bedroom for Your Children
Here are the luckiest bedrooms for your children:
• North - Middle son
• Northeast - Youngest son
• East - Eldest son
• Southeast - Eldest daughter
• South - Middle daughter
• West - Youngest daughter
The first step in Feng Shui-ing your bedroom is to follow the advice your mother always gave you: go clean your room. In this case, however, the purpose of cleaning is more than just sweeping up the dust and throwing away garbage. You're cleaning so that your chi doesn't get stuck under your dirty clothes or inside open dresser drawers. Make sure your door swings smoothly all the way to 90 degrees to allow maximum chi to flow inside. When standing at the entrance, make sure that you can see an open, flowing space to your bed - the most important object in the room because it's likely where you'll be for the most time. Feng Shui teachers recommend that, if possible, you avoid putting your bed against a wall, but instead position it so that there is equal space on either side.
Feng Shui also alerts you to negative influences on your health. Perhaps most importantly is the existence of secret poison arrows, which are pointed corners (eg. edge of dresser, guitar neck) aimed at the bed, chair or anywhere else you sit for any amount of time. The two most common ways of avoiding poison arrows are moving your bed/chair out of the line of fire, or softening or camouflaging the sharp corners (eg. drape a cloth over the dresser). To address poison arrows more seriously, you can read about many more specific objects (depending on bagua sector) to place in the line of the poison arrows to deflect the poison.
Feng Shui teachers also recommend to not exercise in your bedroom because this room is supposed to be your resting place, and hard work doesn't mix with a tranquil environment. Also, keep electronics out of the bedroom if possible, or at least cover them when not in use; bedrooms can be a yang/hard room at day, but should always be yin/soft at night.
Finally, here are some tips if you're looking for romance. You can enhance the romantic chi of your bedroom by putting romantic pictures (eg. flowers, angels) in two places: on the wall that you first look at when entering the room, and on the wall that you look at while lying in bed. When decorating, use products in pairs (eg. birds, cherubs, candles or decorative pillows). Also, use round mirrors to signify unity. The following layout is an example of how to Feng Shui your bedroom using the bagua chart:
Example of How To Feng Shui Your Bedroom
Northwest (elders)
Pictures of your elders and helpers North (change)
Mirrors, water-related items, images to support your career goals Northeast (direction)
Bookcase books,
tools for self-development
West (youth)
Art supplies, artwork, computer Center
Open area for free flow of chi East (future)
Money, jewelry, fish, fountains, and
anything red, purple, or gold
Southwest (tranquility)
Family photos, heirlooms, plants South (fame)
Candles, awards, plants, and anything red, orange, or purple Southeast (romance)
Round or oval mirrors, anything pink, pictures of loved ones, paired objects
Feng Shui Tips for Bedroom
Feng Shui influences us all of the time, but the feng shui of a bedroom is particularly important. Not only do we spend around 50-60 hours per week in our bedroom (compared to 30-40 hours or less at our desk), but whilst we're asleep our body tries to heal itself from the stresses and traumas of the day.
Here are some tips to help your establish auspicious feng shui in your bedrooms.
1. Avoid having your feet directly in line with the entry door to your bedroom when you sleep (the same applies to the bedroom windows if the window sill is below the height of your body when you sleep). The Chinese call this the “death” position. That seems a bit dramatic, but I've certainly seen people's health and vitality improve once they stop sleeping with their feet opposite the entry door to their bedroom.
2. Avoid sleeping with your head under the bedroom window. Feng Shui “folk lore” says that this one damages your liver. Acupuncturists will give you chapter and verse on the exact mechanism, but the gist of it is that the energy from the bedroom window enters your body's energy meridians at your head and travels to your liver where it knocks it out of balance. Do it regularly for a few years and you can end up with liver disease.
Avoid sleeping under beams or other things “hanging down” from your bedroom ceiling (including over head cupboards), or 45 degrees off sharp corners which stick into your bedroom, or with a partly open door pointing at you. All of these usually generate sha lines which often result in aches and pains in whichever part of your body gets hit by them. Keeping all of the doors in the bedroom closed when you sleep is a good idea as it usually eliminates a lot of potentially troublesome sha lines.
If your bedroom has sloping ceilings it's a good idea to avoid sleeping with your head near the bedroom wall at the foot of them – it's yet another source of sha.
3. Avoid sleeping with your head next to a steel radiator, or any other source of magnetism, such as your TV or computer (including those outside your bedroom just the other side of the bedroom wall). The magnetic fields don't do your energy fields any good and they may even be strong enough to influence the directions for whichever feng shui formulas which you use to work out which direction to sleep in (see below). So you end up sleeping in a different magnetic direction to the one in the rest of your bedroom.
4. Avoid having open mirrors or other reflective surfaces in the bedroom (e.g. large pictures on the wall, a switched off TV screen), as these often result in people not getting a sound nights sleep. If you have them in your bedroom and can't remove them, try covering them over before you go to sleep each night.
5. Have a solid bedroom wall behind you when you sleep (e.g. don't sleep with a large open space or an open doorway behind the head of your bed).
Avoid sleeping in a direct line with the toilet if it's on the same floor as your bedroom, as these generate sha flows which are often capable of penetrating closed doors and even stud and plaster board walls. If your bedroom has solid brick or stone internal walls, these will usually stop such sha lines.
Be aware of the content and symbolism of any pictures you have on display in your bedroom. They are likely to be among the first things you see each day, and will subtly programme your brain to bring those things into your life (e.g. A picture of a lone person tends to create a single person who doesn’t maintain a long term relationship). Also the content of the picture can interact with the feng shui in that part of your house. It can be for good or ill, it just depends on the specifics of that particular interaction between that picture and the feng shui influences there.
Those are the basic feng shui things to get right in a bedroom, but there are other aspects of the feng shui which can be every bit as important.
Pockets of good and bad influence
In every room there are differences to the qualities of the energy depending where you are in the room. There are basically two categories of these.
1. Those based on the energy spirals which give rise to the BaGua grid. There are several distinct feng shui formulas which each tell you something about the qualities of those energies, some will drain your energy, others may help your relations with others, or your career, yet other influences will cause you to make poor decisions or get into conflicts. Some of these spirals will put you in control of your surroundings, whilst some put others in control of you. Which influences go where and how they combine with each other are determined by compass directions and position within the building. The control position for instance is sometimes located on the opposite side of the bedroom the door, but not always and it may or may not coincide with other beneficial influences.
2. There are also an entirely different set of influences which also apply based on the radial direction from the centre of the building. Both sets of Flying star influences (San Yuen and Yuen Hom) together with several of the Sam Hap feng shui formulas and the hexagram influences of Yuen Hom feng shui give useful information about the feng shui influences of a particular sector of the bedroom.
Generally you will find it better to sleep with your head in an area of the bedroom which has beneficial feng shui influences, but finding them is a job for a professional feng shui practitioner, and sometimes it will not be possible to sleep in a beneficial area and face a good direction (see below) as well. Knowing which one is better in a particular situation requires experience.
Directions
Each person reacts a little differently when they receive energy from a particular direction. Some directions are beneficial for them, others are not. There are four methods of determining what kinds of influence a particular direction has.
1. The simplest (and weakest) is based on the 8 feng shui directions.
2. Two more are based on the person's BaZi horoscope.
3. The fourth (and strongest) is based on their hexagrams.
All of them yield useful information but what is a beneficial direction on one calculation may not be on another. Strange as it sounds that can actually be quite useful, because it means that if you inadvertently face a bad direction, there are usually some good feng shui influences there as well, so the overall effect on you is not that bad. On the rare occasions when good feng shui influences coincide and reinforce good and bad feng shui influences coincide and reinforce bad, you need always to face good directions.
There is quite a bit of myth around as to whether it's where your feet point or where your head points that matters. All I can say is that every Chinese feng shui Master who I have personally asked about this have unanimously said that it's where your feet point that matters, and this accords with my own experience.
If you want to try it for yourself you can use our FREE Online Personal Directions Calculator, which works out the 8 feng shui directions for you.
Colours
Generally, soft colours will give a more relaxed feel to the feng shui of a bedroom rather than bright garish colours. But then comes the choice of the actual colours.
Colours interact with the feng shui influences in that part of the building and with the feng shui influences in the individual persons horoscope. Colours can boost energy, or calm it, strengthen problematic influences or harmonise and balance them – it all depends on the particular colour and the feng shui and horoscope influences at that part of the bedroom and in that part of the house.
Finding the best combination of colours is a job for a professional feng shui practitioner, but if you want to at least avoid decorating in colours which throw the feng shui influences further out of balance in your bedroom, you can use the colours here.
DIY TIP
Where we sleep is very important to our well being.
So at the very least avoid sleeping with your feet pointing out of the entry door and/or your head under a window, plus as many of the other things on this page as you sensibly can.
First Floor Vastu Shastra Tips
Respond
Vastu for Your Home Big Windows Generate Positive Energy Master Bedroom Needs to be in the First Floor
The ancient science of Vastu Shastra advocates certain rules for building the upper floor in a flat or an independent house. For ages Vastu Shastra has been followed and led to good results. According to this ancient architectural form every section of an interior space must be carefully built. So while constructing the upper floors the following tips should be kept in mind.
1. Roof of the first floor should not be higher than that of the ground floor as it will create disputes within the family.
2. Never build a balcony in the South-West corner of the first floor. You can construct a properly shaped balcony little away from that direction.
3. The rainwater exit in the first floor should be placed in the North, East or North-East direction.
4. It is better to construct the South-West part of the terrace and leave the North and East part open.
5. The flooring slope of the first floor should be towards the North or East as it is an apt direction for water flow.
6. Fix doors and windows on the first floor in the East and North direction. A big window in the North-West is always preferred as it generates positive energy.
7. It is advisable to provide a bedroom or study room to the head of the family in the first floor.
8. Waste storage rooms or dumping rooms should not be located on the upper floor as happiness goes along with it.
9. The first floor rooms should be painted in light blue or green for a peaceful mindset. When light enters the room the brightness will make you feel the bliss.
10. Avoid parking slots in the first floor. Vastu believes a weight at the top of the building will spoil the improvement of the resident.
Following these tips, you will be able to lead a peaceful and successful life.

• • The almirahs and safety lockers in which jewelry, valuables and important papers are kept should be positioned very carefully, according to Vastu Shastra. The ideal location is at the west-side wall, facing the east, or a southwest corner facing the east or the north.
• • Locating the safety locker at the south wall facing the north also brings good fortune. The door of the locker should preferably open to the north, which is the direction of Kubera (God of Wealth) as per Vastu.
• • Do not place the locker in north-east corner as it would cause loss of wealth. South-east and north-west corner are also not preferred either as it can lead to unnecessary expenditure.
• • Make sure that the safety locker is not placed under the beam as it causes extreme pressure on financial stability.

Feng Shui
Feng Shui – Historical Background
The practice of Feng Shui began about three thousand years ago in China. However, during the primitive times, this art was restricted to finding auspicious and inauspicious orientations for tombs or burial places only. The Chinese believed that a good burial site had the power to bring luck to the descendents of the dead, showering them with prosperity and abundance. But, as time went on, mystics realized the importance of applying Feng Shui to daily life as well. Through this knowledge, they believed, people could make themselves more attuned with nature, their environment and their life, to attract better health, finances, and emotions.
The main principal of feng shui states that a location which attracts water is most favorable, followed by a location which catches the wind. It is with these two elements that the environment is shaped and these elements are kept alive with the hidden forces of ‘chi’.
The Five Elements
In an attempt to explain the intricacies of the cosmos, ancient Chinese astrologers and philosophers used the five elements and the yin/yang theories. These two concepts have been the primary thought behind all natural sciences of China. The ancient Chinese held that the creation, growth and transformation of everything in this universe resulted from the yin/yang working together in harmony with each other. This interaction can also be explained within the elements. These five elements are, fire, wood, earth, water, and metal which structure the universe.
The colors, numbers, shape, organs, space and time variables, seasons, emotions, directions, are contained within these five elements.
Theory Behind The Five Elements:
The notion behind the elements can be understood with the help of three cyclical interactions-
The creative cycle,
The destructive cycle, and
The reductive cycle.
The creative cycle
The creative cycle is: water nourishes wood (e.g. flora requires water to nurture); wood provides for fire; fire in turn creates earth in the form of ash; earth produces metal; metal generates water.
The destructive cycle
The destructive does not destroy, it neutralizes to maintain balance. The cycle is: wood disturbs earth; earth in turn disturbs water; water puts fire out; fire dissolves metal; and metal chops the wood down.
The reductive cycle
Reductive cycle tends to cure the imbalances caused by the destructive cycle.
Yin/Yang
Yin/yang represents how outwardly opposing forces are interdependent in the universe, and how they bring about each other in turn. Yang is light, yin is dark; yang is lively, yin is flaccid; yin is a female, yang is a male; yang rises, yin sinks. Every little thing has aspects of both yin and yang, but the intensity of both of these forces may differ in every object, and may also change over time.
As per the mystics, yin/yang must exist in an active state of equilibrium if we want harmony in things. Feng shui corrects the disparity that people unintentionally create in their environment.

VASTU AND DOMESTIC HAPPINESS
What has vastu to do with domestic happiness ?
How Vastu, which is the science of dwellings, links itself to the happiness in the family.
The Vedas, the wisdom books and knowledge banks of India, has given us the great Panchataras (Jyotisha, Yoga, Ayurveda and Vastu) of our culture. All these science are inter-related and inter-dependent.
Each sector of a quadrangle (Mandala) is identified with the primary elements of Nature. When these identifications are studied carefully, those can be applied to bring in happiness into the family.
Every body says "Home, sweet home." How can a home be sweet if there are disturbances and agitations in the family? Such disturbances can broadly relate to :
A) Peace of mind,
B) Behaviour,
C) Education,
D) Routine or day to day family ,
conflicts or confrontations E) Health
F) Profession, or
G) Finances
Peace of Mind
If you want to prevent or minimize the problems arising out of the infantile actions or inaction of other members of the family or if you want to give yourselves enough strength to face the onslaught from family members? For this, get enough strength first and then think trying to solve the problems of your family member. The right and legitimate Vastu place for you in the house is the South-West or if that is not available then South of the house. In this area you need to spend at least eight hours a day.
In ancient times, our kings would sit on the throne, which had a certain placement. When they sat there, the assembly, which consisted of ministers and people, would be able to discuss properly matters of importance and the kings were able to award fair judgements. We just need to adapt to this ancient practice in our day to day lives.
In the room selected for parents the bed need to go the south-west corners of the rooms without touching either the western wall or southern wall. We should always sleep with your head to the south. South polarity is induced in the head. This simple principle applies to everyone in the northern hemisphere. When the head is placed to the geographical or magnetic north, the blood circulation is stable and hence will ensure you better health. As a result, it will help you to examine family issues justly. Once you are able to review matters appropriately, you will be able to take the right decisions. This way, you will be able to understand the grievances of your family members and communication between you and your siblings are likely to improve. When it does, you have peace of mind.
Behaviour
Good behaviour of family members is one important aspect of family happiness. When each member of the family understands his/her responsibility towards the family, happiness stays intact, but when one rebels without worrying about one's own responsibility, peace in the family begins to drift away. Such rebelling could be in the form of disturbing behaviour. It could be in the form of verbal aggression on other family members for no rhyme or reason, and can sometimes be even in the form of physical violence.
If you have to choose the north-west and south-east rooms between your daughter and son, It is better to give the northwest room to your daughter and the south-east room to your son.
Agneya (South-East) is ruled by agni or fire which relates to assertiveness and aggressive attitude. Venus rules this sector astrologically and relates to contentment, wife (or husband) and fortune. Venus also is the Karaka for marriage. This sector therefore relates to peace of mind (or otherwise) of a couple and consequently, to family happiness. As Agni is predominant in this sector, it would be wise for newly married couple to keep away from this room.
Timid children can make use of this room and hope to come out of their fear and get confident. People who are by nature aggressive (and warlike) can avoid a south-east room.
Vayuvya (North-West) is ruled by Vayu or air, which relates to movement or transit Astrologically, this sector is ruled by the Moon and consequently, relates to the mind. The Moon also is the Karaka for mother.
Taking this as the basis of our understanding, we can safely conclude this sector also relates to peace of mind of one's mother and naturally, to peace of mind of the family. This sector is not suitable for already disturbed minds. If we have to use the north-west rooms invariably, we need to strengthen the interiors so that the disturbance is minimized, if not removed. This sector may not be appropriate for youngsters in their formative years, especially boys.
Newly-wed couples can use this room.
Education
Education (or lack of it) is another important aspect in life which invariably adds (or lessens) to the happiness in a family. We see children doing extremely well and parents are delighted about it. We also see children not faring well inspite of their own hard study and the constant coaxing of the parents to study. How can we make then study better?
Students who have difficulty in studies can study in South-East rooms sitting in the North-East corners of the rooms facing East.
Intelligent students can select a North-East room and study their lessons facing East sitting in the central East of the room. Students are advised to sleep with their heads to the East. They can have their beds in the South-west corners of their rooms.
Experiments in medical electricity have brought to light that if a current of electricity is passed from one part of the body to another, It subdues all inflammation in that part of the body where it enters. Now, in lying down with the head placed eastward, the current of thermal electricity which is constantly passing over the surface of the earth from east to west, passes also through the body from the head to the feet and subdues inflammation. Therefore, There is a clear and healthy head, which in turn makes the student study and understand his lessons properly. It is precisely for this reason that sage Markandeya said that a man becomes learned by lying down with his head placed Eastward and is troubled with distressing thoughts by lyingdown with his head placed westward.
Routine Conflicts
We also find that normal day to day conflicts among the family members also affect peace of mind of the parents and elders of the family. These disturbances can sometimes be traced to the South - West. Check if there is a water source (water stump or well) in the South-west of the house and if so, close it by filling it up with cement or earth. If you find that the South-West of the house is chopped off, this could also be the reason for the hostility among the family members leading to depression in the elder's rational thinking.
Care should be also be taken to see that no door is either on the south or West of the South-west of the building. A door on the South west of a building (or room ) is likely to create family disturbances.
Health
Health is another important aspect of family happiness. General health can be improved by sleeping with the head placed South. Disturbed minds can make use of central east rooms with their beds to the south - west corners of the room and not touching the walls.
Profession
Contentment and happiness in your profession is another contributory factor to family happiness. Apart from looking into the placements of your room in your office and arrangement of furniture in that room, it is necessary that you get used to facing East. The East sector ruled by the Sun is synonymous with health - physical and mental. You will be able to think properly and take fair decisions on anything related to your profession.
Finances
Financial stringency is another factor that contributes to family unhappiness. We find people complaining that the inflow of revenue does not match their hard and sincere effort. We can trace improper flow of money to several factors. The ancient works have invariably recommended a North of North-east water source. We find that temples, which are financially prosperous, have their Pushkarnis in the North of North-east. If you are planning to go for a well or a water pump, you can try to locate it in the North of North-east of your site.
It is also said that the North is ruled by Kubera. You can place your assets like jewellery, cash, bank cheque books, property papers and other important documents in a central north room of the house with the almirahs kept in the south - west corners of the room and opening towards the North. This way the revenue of the family can stabilize.
Vastu shastra is handed over to us to regulate our lives. These suggested Vastu recommendations can help to lessens problems faced in a family and improve things. We, of course, need to understand that we are always working within a framework set by our horoscopes. Within this we can try to archieve the best that is due to us. Once we know that we are working within the limits set by the Almighty, We will be able to reasonably achieve family happiness by making use of Vastu rules laid down by the Vedas.

Some experts of Vastu have analyzed the effects of sleeping in different directions upon people of different age groups
and mentality vis-Ã -vis the precepts of the Vedic Scriptures. The summary of their recommendations on the positive or negative
effects found in general is as follows:
• Bedroom in the Northeast (Ishana) Direction: This is supposed to be against the principles of Vastu. Having bedroom in this direction is not suitable because, as the name suggests (Isha = God; Ishana = place of God), this direction is most suited for the worship-, prayer- and meditation room. If the master bedroom happens to be in this corner and is being used by the head of the family, he/she might suffer physical and mental problems and often face economic constraints. If it is a must (due to a readymade or rented house, for instance) to have a bedroom in this direction, it should be used for the younger members (especially the school or college going children) of the family. The bed should be placed in the South of this room and care should be taken that the head lies in the South or the East.
• Bedroom in the East: If used for a continuous stretch of time, especially by the elders in the family, it would cause or augment ill health and fluctuating moods. If it is a must to have a bedroom here, it may be arranged for the guests or converted into a study-cum- bedroom for the children who should do their studies in the Northeast corner.
• Bedroom in the Southeast (Agneya) Direction: This being the Natural direction of the (thermal) energy field of Agni (fire), sleeping here would disturb the mental cool of the head of the family. He/she would feel excessive irritation and might become short-tempered in general. This in turn would upset peace in the family ambience and add to the mental tension and might lead to insomnia. As discussed earlier, this corner is most suitable for having a kitchen or a fireplace. However, if it is unavoidable, one might have a bedroom here with a partition so that one portion could be used as a storeroom or kitchen. If even that be not feasible, then this bedroom should be used by the young girls in the family provided they are not short-tempered; the energy of Agni will help them remain energetic and active in general.
• Bedroom in the South: This is supposed to be the best choice. The geomagnetic effects are most soothing here for mental and bodily relaxation. One gets good sleep here and regains energy and freshness for the next day. This way, his/her productivity and mental peace and creativity also increase. Thus, having the master bedroom in this direction generally results in happiness and prosperity for the family.
• Bedroom in the Southwest (Nairatya) Direction: This is also found to bring auspicious effects like the South direction, if the master bedroom is located here. For best results, the bed should be placed towards the South.
• Bedroom in the West: This could also be a good choice after South or Southwest while taking care that the slope (if any) of its roof is inclined towards Southeast or some other direction but not towards the West. Having youngsters' or children's bedroom in this direction bestows more beneficial effects upon them.
• Bedroom in the Northwest (Vayavya) Direction: This is supposed to be the best if guest's bedroom is placed here. It also is generally good for the girls in the family. However, for others, especially the elders, sleeping here would generally cause mental agitation and irritation and hence would result in bad health and/or quarrels. The negative effects would be most prominent upon the head of the family, if it happens to be the master bedroom used by them; in that case, one of them might also have to travel unnecessarily.
• Bedroom in the North: This is prohibited according to the strict rules of Vastu. This direction is supposed to be that of Kuber (the treasurer of heavens or the Lord of wealth). This direction is therefore best suited for storing the wealth or valuables. Using this as the master bedroom harms the prosperous growth of the family and causes economic decline, which naturally results in mental tension and associated health problems.
If necessary, arrangements could be made to have the bedroom somewhere between the North and the Northwest corner instead of North. Having the bedroom between the North and Northwest for the younger couples (especially the newly married ones) in the family is supposed to be auspicious for them.
BED ROOM
The lighting should be a soothing general illumination. If want to highlight some paintings or photographs, one can go for a task lighting in this area. Up lighters look very beautiful, dimmers can be very useful to play with the intensity of the light as per mood. Lights should be planned in such a way that it must create a light, romantic, relaxing environment. Table lamps or hanging lampshades provides the room a very aesthetic look.

The term Vastu, meaning a dwelling place, was initially used to refer to the homes of gods and human beings. Vastu is also defined as the art of placing objects and elements to create a harmonious environment, often referred to as Indian feng shui. The theory is based on ancient principles of design and architecture that predate its Chinese cousin. However, with time, it came to be associated with the right location as well as design of almost any and every structure. Be it a plot, commercial complex, industry, shop/showroom, residential house or spiritual place like temple, Vastu tips are followed while building each and every edifice. Coming down to home, it takes an important place in all the activities of your day to day life. The structure of a house forms one of the important considerations in Vastu Shastra. If the house construction is weak, vastu is also weak, and if house construction is strong, Vastu also works strong.
When it comes to residential Vastu, each and every aspect of a house is taken into consideration. Right from the master bedroom and kids’ room to the bathroom and even the garage, there is not even a single aspect in a house that is overlooked by Vastu Shastra. For instance, best direction for master bedroom construction is south-west, while for other rooms; central, southern and central west directions are appropriate. Then, for prayer room, yellow or sandal color is just perfect for walls. Like this, there are many other Vastu tips that need to be followed while constructing as well as furnishing a house.
Master Bedroom
People have relied on Vastu for centuries for living in perfect harmony and keeping problems at an arm’s length. It is even more important for your bedroom, where you retire to escape from the worries of the world and have a tension-free sleep. In context of bedroom, Vastu takes into consideration different determinants to ensure harmony in the house. The main things that become important, while constructing and designing bedrooms, are location, placement of bed, color scheme, direction and placement of doors, windows, and furniture, set up of electronic gadgets, etc.
• For ensuring peace in the house, the main bedroom should be constructed in the south direction.
• While placing the bed, make sure that you keep it in such a way that the occupant sleeps with his/her head pointing towards the south.
• Having the head in the north direction should be completely avoided, while sleeping, as it acts as a source of nightmares and disturbed sleep.
• If you want to have a bookshelf in your bedroom, west or southwest corner is the appropriate location.
• For constructing the master bedroom, south-west direction is just perfect. Other bedrooms can be constructed on the eastern or northern side of the master bedroom.
• Square and rectangle shape bedrooms are just perfect for ensuring peace and prosperity in the house. Irregular shapes should be completely avoided.

• The first thing that you see when you enter your bedroom should give you the feeling of peacefulness and serenity. Such feelings can be enhanced by a photograph, inspiring quote, painting, sculpture or even flowers. Locate these things at such a place that the moment you enter your bedroom, your gaze falls on them.
• Don’t place your bedroom mirror on the wall opposite your bed, as it disturbs sleep. At such a position, the mirror reflects your image and holds back your stress, rather than allowing you to throw it off.
• Remove clutter from under you bed, as it keeps your mind lingering in the past and hinders future progress. Wherever clutter exists, your life energy becomes stagnant. Clutter is symbolic of all that has not been completed in your life. It will also not allow you to have a sound sleep, as it disturbs your subconscious mind.
• Don’t sleep in direct alignment with sharp corners. This can create stress in your nervous system. In a room that has sharp corners, you will never be able to experience peace, unless you soften them by placing plants in front. Also, move your bed away from direct alignment with them.
• The Vastu colors ideal for your bedroom are soft pastel shades of blue, green and off white. Avoid using dark and excessively bright colors in your bedroom.
• Vastu Shastra rejects the idea of keeping an aquarium in the bedroom. It is believed that if they live there, they will attract material loss.
• Avoid placing divine idols, pictures, statues in the bedroom. The best place for them is your prayer room.

• You can keep decorative plants in a garden, but they should not be more than three feet tall.
• If you want to keep swings in your garden, they should be placed in the east or the north.
• The house of your pet or a bird’s nest can be located in the north-west corner of the garden.
• Sitting areas are best planned in the south and west direction and should be facing north and east.
• A garden needs to have a focal point that is visually comforting and inspiring. It can be a fountain, fish aquarium, rocky landscaping, statue (not depicting any form of violence), small idol of your deity, Swastika, Om or anything that has a pleasant look to it.
• As a rule, the garden has to be kept clean and free of litter. Make it a point to remove dry creepers, leaves, flowers, and overgrown shrubs on a regular basis. The lawns should be mowed regularly, as they create an environment for the normal flow of energies.
• A pathway from the front gate of the building to the main entrance will prove to be quite beneficial. On each side of the pathway, grow herbal plants, like basil, and flower plants, like jasmine. A tree or plant in the middle of the path needs to be avoided.
• Fruit-bearing trees should be planted in the east direction. A rock garden can be made in the south-west corner of the garden.
• If there is a swimming pool in the garden, it should face the north or north-east direction. A swimming pool in the centre, towards the south, southeast or southwest and even the northwest needs to be avoided. It can result in unwanted events, brings negativity in the mind of the residents and adversely affects their health.
• The fountains or water ponds should not be built in the centre of a garden. Rather, they need to follow the same principles as the placement of swimming pools. If their placement is wrong, they cause problems with respect to mental peace and health. Fountains, ponds or artificial springs are very favorable when located in the north-east.
Maintaining bed rooms are very easy as per Vastu, to get a great life. We spend the whole night here and can eaqsily gain the good Vastu energies while in sleep without any efforts. If your bed room creates good energy you can sleep well, get up early and work actively the whole day. And to say least if you don't sleep well, have lot of dreams, wake up with confusion regularly then the main cause could be the bad arrangements in your bed room. Check these points and confirm you are right with Vastu and correct what are all possible.
Master Bedroom
As per Vastu Shastra the master bedroom should be in the south-west corner of the building, in every floor. The main earning member or the Eldest of all should stay in the master bedroom of highest floor. This room can be used by father or the eldest son, or who controls the family expenses.
Normally people use the Master bedroom for safe keeping the valuable and important things they own. That is why Vastu prescribes strict instructions for the position of master bedroom. The south west corner of the house is called “Kuber Moolai” in Vastu Shastra and its good Vastu vibrations are very important for financial steadiness of the owner.
For getting good financial wealth by Vastu principles a good heavy locker has to be positioned and kept in the south-west corner of this bed room. All important documents of properties, bank pass books, cheque books, account books, cash, jewellary, silver vessels and ornaments have to be safely kept in this safety locker.
Whatever things are stored in this place will grow and prosper the owner of the house. The person staying in this room will lead others in the family and control them in all aspects. Vastu suggests that this portion should never be rented out or provided for guests or children. If children stay in this room, their studies will be spoiled and character might become worsen. Southwest corner of the bedroom should never be left empty.
The other bedrooms as per Vastu Shastra can be provided at the south (positive) and west (positive) direction of the house. It is also recommended for the eldest son, provided the parents stay in the master bed room. The second son or next earning member of the family can stay in this room. If the master bedroom or bedroom of a married couple is in the south-east direction of the main building, it results in unnecessary quarrels between them and some of them get divorced also.
Vastu Tips
Beds should be placed so as the head of the person should be in south or west direction.
The bedroom should not be constructed above porch, car parks and kitchen.
The bed rooms should not be in the central portion of the building or in the basement, as it may lead to mental instability in person using such bedrooms.
If any cabinets of almirahs are constructed or placed in the bedroom, which contain valuable documents, cash, jewelry etc., they should be positioned in the south-west corner of the room and as such the doors are opening towards north or east.
An attached bathroom to the bed room can be planned in the north-west or south-east of the room, but never on south-west or north-east direction.
Entrance door to the bedroom may have a window opposite to it.
If there is more than one floor, the head of the family (elder person) should have a bedroom on the upper floor and in the south-west corner. This room should never be used as a bedroom of young children, or unnecessary quarrels are likely to occur in the house.
The southwest side of the house and all the rooms inside the house should always be heavier than the east and northeast side. Maximum open space should be left in the northeast side of the bed rooms and toilets or bath rooms should not be provided at this corner.
Avoid keeping a TV in the bedroom. If a TV is kept, it should never be in front of bed, as it works as a mirror and keeping a mirror in front of bed generates negative energy. The dressing-table in the bedroom should be kept west or south direction, so as these mirrors always face the east or north direction.
The mirrors kept in the bed room in the dressing table, cupboards, shelves etc., should be positioned so that they don’t reflect the bed. If they reflect any person while sleeping they will suffer from any disease which can’t be cured fully.
Reading and writing activities can be carried out in the north or east side of the bedroom. The door of the bedroom should be in the east, the west or the north but never on the south-west corner of the bed room. Having windows in the east and north and smaller windows in west is beneficial.

Study room
As per Vastu Shastra Study room can be located in the north-east, east, north-west and portion of the house, but never be in the south-west and south-east corners. Hindu Gods Lord Budha (Mercury), Lord Guru (Jupiter), Lord Chandra (Moon) and Lord Shukra (Venus) are the Gods that give intelligence and education to Children. Vastu directions for study room are based on their effects and positions in Jyotish Shastra.
It is better having a study room in the west direction, as mercury increases brain power, Jupiter increases ambition and curiosity and Moon helps in the generation of new thoughts and ideas. Venus helps in the growth of talent.
The doors and windows shall be positioned so as the sun light is not obstructed to flow inside the study room.
Windows should be larger on the eastern side and smaller on the western side of the room.
Study table should be placed in such a direction that the face of the student while studying is towards the north-east, east or north.
Book rack and cabinets should be placed in the south-west and northwest of the room and never in the east, north, south-east and north-east directions.
No cabinets or tables should be placed in the center of the room. It is best to leave the center portion of the study room empty.

Guest Room
The north-west corner is ideal as a guest room as per Vastu Shastra. This is the corner denoted for the Lord Vaayu and denotes movement. Guests so placed in this bed room mean that they will not stay unduly long.
The south east corner is also a better option for a guest bed room.
The north, east and west parts of the house also can be considered as guest room.
But the south-west corner of the house should never be allotted for the guest room.

Kid’s Bedroom
For getting good sleep in the night and freshness when waking up, the children's bedroom must be fully Vastu compatible. Getting high marks and ranks are directly depending in the position of bedroom and study room of the children.
Often even intelligent and bright students fail to achieve their goals just because of the bad Vastu vibrations in their bed rooms. If their rooms are not as per Vastu the memory power and confidence levels are badly affected due to the negative energies of Vastu.
If any children seem to be excellent in intelligence and activities but poor in performance in the exams parents must take steps to check their bed position, study table position and the place where the books are kept. If these Vastu factors are not corrected, their hard work is wasted and prosperous future is lost.
Vastu Shastra must be followed to get the complete good vibrations to make them healthy and mentally sharp.
As per Vastu Shastra Children's rooms can be in the west, north or east of the building. A north-west corner and west side bedroom is best for children. A north- east corner bedroom can also be used for unmarried children or guests.
Vastu Tips
As a general rule of Vastu, there must not be any mirror opposite to the bed in a bedroom. A television screen is also considered as mirror, when turned off, and so even a TV is not allowed to be kept exactly opposite to the bed. But as people generally insist on keeping a TV in bedroom, it can be kept to the right or left of the bed at angle for a comfortable view from bed.
The children study table can be fixed in the north-east corner of the room. The bookshelf should not be fixed near the north-eastern corner, but preferably on south and west walls of the children’s room.
The bed or cot in the children's room can be in the southwest portion of the bed room with head position in the east or south direction.
The door of the bathroom should not be exactly opposite to the bed. The furniture in the room should be placed a few inches away from the walls, as it saves the positive energies of body and mind.
The study table, if placed in the bedroom, should be placed so as to ensure that the child should face east, north or north-east while studying. Facing east ensures better concentration while studying.
A television should never be placed in the bedroom, but if it is necessary it can be placed in north-west of the room. And a computer can be placed in south-east corner of the room.
Children's rooms and Vastu shastra

Anil and Anjali run their factory of wrought iron furniture in Noida. In November 2006 they shifted from Delhi to Noida into a house which is much larger and better located than their previous house. Soon after shifting Anjali noticed that her 11 year old son Karan was restless and not very comfortable in the new house. Initially she thought that the restlessness was due to relocation from Delhi to Noida; in Delhi Karan had his circle of friends, and she thought that he was missing them. Soon he would adjust, she thought, and so did not bother much.
But within weeks Karan developed a certain arrogance and assertiveness in his behaviour. He began to disobey Anjali, quarrel with his younger sister Sharda, make unreasonable demands for gifts and toys, not apologize for his mistakes, and turn stubborn whenever reprimanded.
In the next PTA meet in the school Karan’s class teacher told Anil and Anjali that Karan had begun to slip in his studies and was becoming the bully of the class. They met the student counselor, who was also a child psychologist, and with guidance from her tried to handle the situation. Unfortunately, nothing seemed to work.
I met Anil when he had come to listen to my talk on Vãstu at the local Rotary meet. After the talk he discussed the problem of his son with me and asked if I could come over to see his residence.
It was a well built house with roads in North, West and South, with its main entrance facing North, and a driveway in the East. The couple occupied a room in the South, the daughter slept with the parents, and the boy was given the room in the South-Western corner. His room had a separate entry, as well as a connecting door to the Master Bed Room. Both the rooms were very quiet and the only thing I could hear was the faint hum of the air-conditioner. Both the rooms had heavy curtains to keep out the harsh daylight. Obviously, all the windows were shut. The bedroom of the kid was stuffed with toys, cricket bat, pads, skating shoes, school bag and books, and everything was scattered and strewn all around. His room smelt of used socks, his bed was in a mess, chaos ruled his room. For light the ceiling had two CFLs which certainly did not produce sufficient light.
No wonder the child had turned arrogant, volatile, and had lost interest in his studies. Children are more sensitive than the grown-ups to Vãstu energies. South-West is the direction for the Boss, the Master of the House, it is the Power Seat, and here was a typical case where an 11-year old child was given the South-West room and he had turned demanding, had started to act bossy and tough. An equally dire mistake was the keeping away of natural light and absence of cross-ventilation. The third mistake was the absence of order and harmony in the room. The fourth mistake was the absence of proper artificial light in the room.
The kid was shifted to an unoccupied room in Western part of the house. According to Vãstu principles children should be given a room in the Western direction. The servant was instructed to leave the window open as much as possible to allow in ample natural light and occasional gusts of fresh breeze. We furnished the room with light furniture, used light lemon, khaki and green colours for the bed, got him a chair, a study table which we personalized by writing his name on it. Next we created a ‘study corner’ in the North-Eastern corner of his room and placed the study table, a little bookshelf, his school bag and his other books in there. Karan was told that it was ‘his’ table, and he should feel proud to keep it clean and orderly. And yes, we also got him a table clock.
The change was gradual, but steady and positive. His arrogance gave way to discipline, he began to take interest in his studies, Anjali made him join the Tennis Academy, and in a few weeks the results were obvious. The kid was now brilliant, active, happy, and fresh as a bloom.
Vãstushastra is a system of architecture which has detailed instructions for designing and building a dwelling. The need of the hour is to incorporate these instructions into present living conditions to get their maximum benefit. Children are more sensitive, and therefore care must be taken when designing the room for the kids. Listed below are some important considerations for a room for the kids.
• The ideal direction for the room of the children in a house is West or WNW – West by North-West (between West and North-West).
• The directions of North, East, and North-East are associated with light and knowledge. A good practice is to place the study table in the North-Eastern part of the room. If that is not possible, then place it in Northern or Eastern part of the room in such a manner that the child faces North, East or North-East while studying. This would help the child to concentrate and absorb whatever is studied.
• Use light shades of green or sky blue for walls and curtains.
• As an alternative, consider using light coloured wallpaper with floral motif.
• For bedsheets I would suggest colours like green, blue, sky blue, light brown and khaki, off-white, shades of yellow etc. Refrain from using strong and dark colours.
• Care should be taken that the W.C. in the child’s room does not face East or West, as it can lead to health problems.
• Please ensure that the room does not face a T-junction. If it does, consult a Vãstu expert.
• Do not place the bed and the study table under an overhead beam.
• Do not place the bed bang opposite to the entrance door of the room.
• Place the cupboard in the South-Western corner of the room.
• Encourage the child to keep his or her room clean and orderly. Ask him or her to clean it on weekends.
• Encourage the child to say his or her prayers before leaving the bed, before taking food, and before retiring to sleep.
• Do not place a TV in the room. Let the child watch TV in the family lounge with others.
If a new house is being designed, consult a Vãstu scholar for determining the size of the room for the kids. Vãstushastra is not about merely directions, it is also about creating finely tuned spaces which resonate with harmony, and one way of doing it is by calculating the room sizes to get the desired result.

We love a fresh start.
That’s why we’ll take as many new year’s celebrations as we can get.
And today, there’s another one: Chinese or Lunar New Year. Lunar New Year is the most important holiday in Asian cultures. When I was little, my mom told me that it was important to act on Chinese New Year how you wanted the whole year to be. Traditionally, homes are swept clean, special lucky foods are eaten, fights avoided and grudges forgotten so that peace and happiness can be wished on everyone.
The Chinese are big on prosperity and fortune as themes for Lunar New Year, so in honor of today's ringing in the Year of the Dragon (a year of great luck), we had a feng shui consultant come to my apartment and assess what changes I could make to increase wealth in my life. If you’re raising an eyebrow, feng shui is an ancient system of geomancy based on geography and astrology that has been around for over five thousand years. It’s based on the concept of “chi,” or energy, and often the tips just make a lot of common sense.
Allessandra (Ali) Bogner is a feng shui consultant in New York City who used to have the very non-fluffy job of investment banker, so she knows a thing or two about money. She got interested in feng shui when her life started to fall apart after moving into a building, and she heard similar stories from other tenants. She works with clients who are prominent in the fashion, finance and hedge fund industries in New York City.
"Wealth means different things to different people," says Ali. "It's not necessarily about money, although it can be. It can be about creativity, achievements or recognition."
While we obviously recommend tackling your finances in a concrete way first and foremost (start the new year off right by signing up for an affordable Financial Plan, or a free Take Control of Your Finances Bootcamp), a little extra luck never hurt. Follow these general tips to increase the flow of good wealth-creating energy into your life. Then view our slideshow to two feng shui makeovers: My apartment and an office cubicle.
Home
1. The wealth corner is the southeast area of your home.
If you hire a consultant, she will do a more detailed identification of the spot based on the year your building was built and your birthdate, but you can use the southeastern area as a rough guide. Here, put symbols of money or real money (tape it behind a piece of furniture or a picture).
2. Put something "active" and red in the areas you want to activate.
You should also put active elements in your wealth area. Examples of active things are a computer, printer, a working clock, a fan, a TV, a fish tank, a fountain—something that is used and has energy.
3. Remove dead flowers or branches.
Dead or dried flowers or branches represent dead chi—they are the worst thing to have in your home. Ali tells me that she used to have lots of dried flowers around her apartment, and it was one of the darkest times in her life.
4. Put some live bamboo in your career area (this is generally the northern area).
"Left to its own devices, bamboo will grow like crazy," says Ali. Bamboo is a lovely sustainable plant that represents money and natural, creative growth.
5. Close the bathroom door.
Keep the bathroom door shut at all times. Otherwise, the energy of the house will flow into the bathroom and "down the drain."
6. Fix anything that isn't working properly.
In feng shui, everything should work as it's designed to, so there is good chi and flow. A leaky faucet? Money leaking out of your life. A clogged drain? Not letting things go. A clock that has stopped still? It can symbolize time stopping. A burner on a stove going out is bad—the oven is the hearth of the home. Fix whatever you can, and get rid of the rest.
Work
1. Keep clutter at bay.
The most important thing you can do for your career is to perform well (check out our Build Your Career Bootcamp), but some physical changes to your work area can help. Make sure your desk is neat and organized—take some time every week to go through your desk and make sure everything is neat. Ali points out that your boss will notice a re-organized work area, whether consciously or not, and it will send a message of effectiveness and organization.
2. Make sure your pictures are inspirational.
Look with a fresh eye at what images you have around your work area. Make images positive, future-oriented and inspiring. Replace old ticket stubs or old vacation photos with pictures of where you'd like to go in the future. "I had a client who had a giant picture of the Titanic hanging in his office," says Ali. "He liked to remind himself that nothing was ever a sure thing, so it reinforced his cautious nature. I told him to take it down, and instead he put up a photo of Mount Everest.
"Within a month or so of doing a little feng shui in his office, he signed the biggest deal of his life. He started focusing on international deals, with emphasis on the Far East. (Yes, near Everest.) Within two to three years, he managed to build up his business and hire enough people that he could work from home."
3. Evaluate the papers on your desk.
"What papers do you have on your desk that are positive or negative?” asks Ali. “An executive I worked with had piles of paper and half of them were dead deals! Why would you want that negative energy around you? Store them somewhere if you have to keep them, but don’t keep them out and around you.”
4. Keep family photos to a minimum.
Work is for work, according to Ali. Keep images to those that will inspire you for work, so you can stay more focused. Have just one spot for your family or personal photos—don't spread them everywhere—or you will be less focused.
5. Don't have your back to the door.
Never work with your back to the door or to a room. If you can't change your seating, put up a mirror near your work area so you can glimpse people who are coming up behind you.

A central feng shui tenet is that marital or romantic happiness is an important element for a happy, well-lived life. And if you’ve had marital or romantic unhappiness, you know how true that is!
Of course, one of the keys to an effective partnership is having the relationship on a solid romantic footing. Why is this? Well, if you are in a union and have children, it demonstrates to the children your commitment to each other. It also shows the importance of your union to your kids, yourselves and everyone else.
And, don’t forget that as parents YOU are the source of the family and its well-being. If things such as jobs, kids, cars, pets, housework, bills, yard work, TV, golf, Tupperware parties, grocery shopping, shoe repairs, etc., etc., etc., comes before you and your mate, then you need to reprioritize your list to put you and your love first!
An important first step to creating a beneficial bedroom is to make sure you both agree to give your bedroom some extra attention and energy. Positive intention on both your parts goes a long way toward the desired result: more love and more romance. To get your romantic motor purring, just check the tips below. You are bound to see some ideas to help you create – or reignite – the passion in your relationship!
1. Look around. Is your bedroom a gender-neutral bedroom design that appeals to the both of you? Remember, men traditionally don’t like floral designs and if your bedroom is flowery, then your man could be experiencing resentment every time he enters the room. Likewise, if you’ve yielded to your man’s furnishing taste you, too, may also grow resentful.
What to do? Well, start from scratch, and if you can, clear out everything from the room (just like they do on those room makeovers on HGTV). Then look at the paint, drapes, carpet, etc. to see if these need changing. A good starting point is to look at the walls.
If you are considering painting, select a restful, neutral color, such as those of the color of skin, i.e., beige, taupe, brown, or rose. If possible, replace loud, flowery, or overly-austere furnishings with ones that are comfortable and make for a serene environment. And for those of you going to bed every night in those awe-inspiring white walls: did you know that the Chinese equate the color white with death? Now there’s a romance-killer! Get out the paint buckets quick!
2. The bed is where it’s at. Just like real estate, when it comes to the bed, it’s all about location, location, location. Make sure the bed is at the widest part of the room and the door to the room can be seen from the bed. This is a critical feng shui element. Bed placement is extremely important especially if the bed is placed on the same wall as the bedroom door. This will bring serious disagreements for the couple. The bed should also not face a bathroom, see a toilet, share the same wall as a toilet, or be directly opposite a door. It’s also best if the bed doesn’t face a closet or bookshelves of some kind.
Also, be sure to give yourself some support. Beds that have the headboard to a window give the couple little support. If this is the best (or only) position for the bed, place a wooden screen between the bed and the window to simulate a wall. And when it comes to your bed, it is always a good idea to have a bed that belongs only to you and your honey. Beds used in previous relationships bring those former relationships into your love life.
If this is your situation, but you hate to get rid of a perfectly good bed, then donate it to a charity. Take the write-off and then buy yourself a new bed and mattress and give it to yourselves as an anniversary present.
Remember, in your house, the bed is the No. 1 symbol of your union. Make it a nice one with luxurious pillows and comforters or spreads; it’s a good thing. And speaking of Martha (and your mother): Don’t go out without making your bed. A beautifully made bed makes you want to get in it, an unmade bed makes you want to leave the room. Now, what message does your bed send?
3. Look Up. Got a ceiling fan whirring above your bed? Lots of us do. This could be cooling you down… literally and romantically! Ceiling fans above the bed disrupt your body’s chi (energy) -- and your romantic chi. Rather than rip the fan out of the ceiling (unless you want to), try placing red dots on each fan blade. You also might avoid turning on the fan for a week and see what happens… who knows?
4. Look down. Do you have all kinds of junk under your bed? Maybe you just have dust-bunnies the size of Dallas lurking under there. Clear it out and place a crystal sphere at the foot of the bed. These are believed to enhance relationships. Or, if you have an amethyst geode, place it at the foot of the bed. These are also believed to be marriage enhancers. Get the spheres at design stores, and get geodes at nature stores or gem shops.
5. Look away… from the TV, that is. When it comes to building your romance feng shui, TV in the bedroom becomes just that: TV in the bedroom -- and nothing else. Television is a distraction to romance and it takes away from a room’s restful qualities because when it’s turned off, the TV acts like a mirror, reflecting you and your sweetie in bed. This disrupts your chi and can even cause insomnia. Still not convinced? Experts on insomnia also recommend that TV’s stay out of the bedroom because it sends a signal to the occupant(s) that this place is only for rest.
Remember, when it comes to your romantic bedroom, you should only be using it for R&R: rest and romance. Watch television in your family or living room only.
But be warned, girls, if you want to take the TV out of the bedroom that he’ll fight, he’ll cry, he’ll wail and gnash his teeth, but stand firm, and tell him you only want two things turned on in the bedroom: you and him. Now, if that’s not a convincing argument, I don’t know what is!
6. Change your sheets. But you already knew that, didn’t you? But did you also know that, just like the bed, if the sheets on the bed are brought to the marriage from a previous relationship, or worse, a divorce, that the old energy lingers here? Yuck. Used or inherited linens should also not be used on the bed. Adorn your bed only with new sheets and keep them reserved only for yourselves. Feng shui teachers say that pink sheets are the best choice because they have the “fire” from the color red. If you’ve got old sheets on the bed that are torn and tattered, what does it say about the emphasis you place on your romantic life? Treat yourself to some nice linens that feel wonderful and make you want to hop into bed!
7. Remove mirrors. Mirrors placed across from the bed or that can be seen from the bed can “divide” the couple and create insomnia. Mirrors should be kept in the bathroom or hallway and out of the bedroom. I really can’t stress this enough. Most of the time, you can use mirrors from dressers in other locations in the house. How about above the fireplace or down a long hallway? Both of these places can benefit from a mirror, so why not relegate the mirror to an area where it can be helpful instead of hurtful?
8. Decorate sparingly. Decorating the room correctly is important. Look at all the elements here to get more ideas about appropriate decorating for your romantic retreat.
Plants, water, and flowers: Take all plants, flowers, and water features out of the bedroom. The Chinese say that “rice sticks together when it is warm,” imparting the wisdom of keeping the bedroom romantic. Water and plants can drown the energy in a couple’s bedroom. Even pictures featuring water, ice, or snow are poor bedroom decorating choices. Flowers give off too much male energy, also making a poor choice for a restful bedroom. Dried flowers should be removed as they are dead energy.
Artwork and pictures: Does yours inspire passion or love? What do the items on your dresser or the art on your wall say about your love life? Hopefully, you don’t have one of those pictures of dogs playing poker. Now, if there is one place for erotic art, this is it. Tasteful nudes or statues of “The Kiss” are perfect here. (Is it me, or does this kind of art just never seem right anywhere else?) Take an extra critical look at what’s hanging above your bed. Is it inspiring? Bet you never gave your bedroom this much thought!
Consider other objects de amour in your room. Wherever possible, use pairs of objects. Two lovebirds, two vases, etc., are a good idea. Try matching prints for the bedroom or two photos of the both of you, one on each of your bedside tables. And while you’re at it, take a close look at the pictures in your bedroom. Are there photographs of your children, your grandparents, friends, or others in the bedroom? If so, these pictures are symbolically looking at you! Remove all pictures of people except for those of you and your love. Placing your wedding picture here or any other happy, romantic picture that you like. It will be a nice reminder in your shared space that the two of you are a couple.
Work, work, work: By all means, eliminate “work” objects. These can be treadmills or other exercise equipment, desks, computers, bookshelves filled with work-related books, or objects that remind either of you of something to do. Even hobbies and projects are not good choices for your love nest.
Know what else is a romance killer? Clutter. It reminds us of work. Remember, hotel rooms make us instantly relaxed when we walk in because they are spare.
9. Houston, we have a problem. Is your room in good working order? Is the carpet coming up or do the windows stick? Your room must function well on all levels. This includes making sure the door opens and closes correctly – and locks, too! Oil creaky door hinges. Privacy is important for couples. Having a lock – and using it, too – sends a strong signal that your romantic life is important, yours alone, and private. This also means making sure you have privacy measures, too. Blinds or other curtains to cover the windows should be working… and used.
10. Create your own love shrine. This is my favorite. Put a picture of the two of you, a dish with a rose quartz crystal or clear quartz crystal, a heart figurine, a candle, or a small lamp in the southwest corner of your bedroom. Dedicate this area for this purpose. Keep the lamp turned on at least 3 hours each day so that it can shine on the crystal. Place mementos in a box here, or anything that is very personal and significant to the two of you. Place a CD or tape player with music you both love here so you play it when you are alone together in the room. You can put anything here that is romantic and makes you think of love… maybe “The Kiss” statue I was mentioning earlier. Try to decide on items together, selecting the things that are meaningful for you both. I have a love shrine, and I am here to tell you that as soon as I put it together, it worked -- and continues to!
So there you have it, the 10 Tips as promised. These tips are all designed to foster a deeper, more loving and intimate relationship. Hope I haven’t given you too much to do, but just remember: this is for you and your love. Your union is important… make your room reflect the care that you feel for your relationship.
Me, myself & my SouthWest
We have a saying in Arabic that translates into something like this: “If it was gonna rain, there would have been clouds,” and also another one that goes like “the letter is read/understood from its headline,” where the bottom line means that it doesn’t look like I was meant to get married… not in this life. Hopeless case.
My relationship luck
I was never so lucky in love… My love life was never a successful part of my life. I’ve always been “single” in a way.
I am not good at all in love relationships. I’m rather a “dude” kinda girl or so I thought! A tom boy. Of 42 years old, still. It was much more fun to be one of the guys. Guys have fun. So instead of messing with them and getting heartaches, I’d rather blend in. It automatically switched the guys off and I became one of them, and get all the laughs.
“But why didn’t she marry yet?” with echo. We had many things to blame my celibacy on. That was the real question.
My poor old grandmother died before seeing me as a bride, with the wedding dress… she couldn’t wait forever.
During my growing years, my father always insisted on having degrees and higher education, to reach higher positions. He completely forgot to mention marriage or kids, even as a possibility. He only remembered to mention it when I got around 25 years old… I really had no clue that our journey had to include a spouse and kids… My father always drove us to be independent and ambitious, have degrees. A passport in life, he said.
In my 30’s, My dad use to tell me that I scared the guys, that I came on too strong with them, that I contradicted them consistently, that I lacked femininity; and also that I was too chubby for guys to look at me. “Your neck is the size of my thigh,” he said. That was very encouraging! And mean.
He never said that getting married and having kids was an objective in life!!! Getting a job is an objective, or climbing the Himalayas; one cannot plan it alone!
Before that, in my 20’s, one morning, I woke up and found myself alone. In college, with my friends both girls and boys, we never even mentioned that we were going to marry etc. That wasn’t the plan! We had so many funky expectations. So what happened? How? When? Why? Did each one plan it alone? When did it become the priority to marry?
“There should be single people, and married people, harmoniously, in balance. Some should have kids, some not!”
They all married one after the other. Just like that. Had kids one after the other. And now each one of them lives in a different world. And me, still single, with a great career ahead of me.
So I kept on evolving with time and age… Alone. I’ve been on the market for 20 years now… funny and interesting years. I remember them like sequences in my life.
There was the “the travel agency” phase: every time I would date someone, he would get an opportunity for a job outside the country. It became a joke! We even came up with a promotion with air miles to win a trip by dating me! Another one would get an upgrade, or a fridge and washing machine, it was really funny, and I never took it bad. I just accepted it. There was also the BITCH (Babe in Total Control of Herself) chapter when I sold myself on the internet.
I’m 42 and have a rich life with many funny stories but still not marriage.
My shrink says that I have issues with commitment. I would feel like a bird in a cage. I certainly do have issues.
My aunt thinks I was too spoiled, that nothing satisfies me…
My girlfriends still throw flower bouquets at me… hopelessly.
But don’t worry too much about me; I’ve had my share of fun and lots of boyfriends, and the whole scenario. Traffic was always active but relationships were not my strength, and they never lasted long. Having the choice was good.
I always thought that getting married was simply not meant to be for me.
Marriage… I never really saw it happening. Never dreamt about it. Not about the D day. Not the dress. Not the list. Not the prince. Not the horse. Nothing. It was never part of my plans!
Also from a different angle, the probability of finding my soul mate was very little as we, in Lebanon, have 6 girls for 1 single guy. Demographic statistics. I will not compete for a guy with 6 others! (Lebanese girls are hot!)
Coincidence or fate? What I’ve been “told”.
In the Arab world, we get our fortune told through a coffee cup that we drank black thick coffee with, Turkish coffee.
In my 20’s, we would check a fortune teller many times per year, just for fun!
Can you believe that none of the fortune tellers I’ve seen in my whole life (and I’ve seen many), have ever told me that one day, even in the far future, I will marry?
Never.
Not with tarot cards, not with black coffee, cards, or crystal ball. Nothing.
Never.
It was always about achievements, communication, travel, and creativity… opportunities and success. Never about love.
My friends would get the love stories, the boyfriends who will come back, the hot adventure and endless romance.
I never got stories…
Don’t you think it all means something? They could’ve lied at least once.
The last time I was “told” something
I was visiting my brother in Singapore, about 2 years ago.
Sitting in the conference room, a Chinese Master was reading our fortune, my brother, his Chinese partner, and me.
The Master couldn’t speak English, and Gina, the Chinese partner, was kindly translating for us.
He took my date of birth, and started talking Chinese. He didn’t look very happy.
Gina looked at us, and in a very shy manner said that I should not get married!
My brother and I immediately asked to make sure if it was “shouldn’t” or “wouldn’t” or “will not”. We were in shock. Sometimes specific words make a big difference of course!
“Shouldn’t” was the answer. He said that I will be miserable and nagging all the time. Better to study, he said.
In a way, I was very happy as I would use it as an excuse for staying free. Like a proof.
Also, what if I wasn’t really meant to be? What if it was “maktub”?
“Maktub” In Arabic translates into “written”, as in written in destiny.
So why can’t we all just admit that it’s not “maktub” that I get married? I really don’t mind, I swear…
Why can’t we look at it as yin and yang? There should be single people, and married people, harmoniously, in balance. Some should have kids, some not! Some will leave kids when they die, thinking they are extending the generation in their families. I say that
it doesn’t matter. We can leave a good book, or a piece of art. I’m sure it doesn’t matter if Einstein had kids or not. What he left is so valuable forever, kids or no kids! He left the formula. That’s his baby.
I recently found a very cute book, full of cartoons and short stories, called “Even God is Single!” It really depends on how you look at things. Very cute.
Feng Shui Investigations
Now forget everything you just read above with the fortune and girly thoughts, and let’s get serious.
This is the efficient part.
We all know that SW is the universal direction of love and relationships for all in general. Being Kua One, SW becomes bad and my personal love becomes South according to the Kua formula.
The truth is not that I’m too fat or chubby or too cool. Nobody is stealing my boyfriends, not 1, not 6 other babes, and it’s not meant to be.
Since 1986, (beginning of period 7), I’ve been living in houses where toilets were in the SW.
That’s the whole truth! That’s the unbelievable coincidence! 3 houses, 3 toilets. 20 years.
One of the first things I read about feng shui was about having a toilet in SW… it was Lillian’s first illustrated Feng Shui book. Back then, I knew nothing about cures and remedies, or the cycle of elements. It only said that it was very, very bad. A disaster.
That it meant separation and bad relationships. Like Prince Charles and Diana.
On holidays, I often went back to my parent’s house. So I checked my compass, and my toilet was also in SW!
Then 6 years ago I moved to a house in Lebanon, also with a toilet in SW! It wasn’t a priority…
Nothing is always perfect I had to compromise.
Can you believe it? Tell me it’s just a coincidence. Go ahead!
This is really “maktub”… that’s the real answer to the main question.
No wonder my relationships never lasted! It all made sense. But there was still traffic no matter what.
After all, I was a loving person, romantic and “marriage material”!
In that book, Lillian said to paint the toilet door in red, or have a mirror stuck on the door, which I did in 3 different versions. I have to admit that it helped a lot. Now I found a curtain made of fine red thread.
So for all that time I lived at my parents, I saw these nice guys passing by, and heading to be flushed away in the toilet…
It wasn’t fate or anything like that! Just architecture!
And Feng Shui beat them all!
Feng Shui Results
Lillian had told us one day not to activate anything if we were not sure. Coz it works.
About 3 years ago, I got lonely. So I activated many formulas at the same time.
So I thought that activating my own love direction according to the Kua formula would help. So I put a double-happiness calligraphy hanger there, and a pair of lovers made of clay in the small South of my living room and my bedroom, as I’m kua 1 and South is
my love direction…
I never really put my weight on activating the SW corner as Lillian said. So I didn’t.
Until 3 years ago. I figured out that I could need a boyfriend in my life, and that I didn’t really want to die alone after all, regardless of commitment or marriage.
So I used the mirror ritual, placed a 6-rod metal windchime inside the toilets in the SW, and also applied the peach blossom formula by placing a Rooster in the West, being a Monkey.
I also launched many balloons with precise wishes written on them.
And it worked. Fast. And it’s been lasting till now!
My shrink thinks that I got rid of most of my fears. Great!
My father is very happy to welcome my “future man”. He is constantly praying and waiting for my engagement.
And me, I’m very happy to have a balanced love life for now. Not more.
I’m a Monkey and he’s a Snake. Secret friends.
The future looks bright!
I am also, more than ever, convinced with the efficiency of Feng Shui. It works, and it rocks!
So for those with toilets in the SW, don’t worry, and don’t blame yourself. Just use a cure and open up for love and romance.
P.S.: I am not married yet, but there is someone I “might” marry. A potential future husband. I’ll keep you posted
Vastu Shastra For Children Bed Room :
Children, our life. We are living only for them, they are our life no doubt about it. We are striving for their development only, did the children know their responsibilities, no... generally children doesn’t have knowledge how to overcome from their studies and keep standing of parents good name in the society. Work and rest epitomize the division of night and day in nature. Sleep ideal form of rest is necessary for all. So a horse falls into sleep in standing posture. (This matter is from www.subhavaastu.com). Dolphins in the seas close one eye and open one eye in sleep while swimming. Bat hangs upside down. Cats squeeze themselves into a ball and sleep. Nature composed of five elements blessed living beings with rest, which is sleep. So the only place of bliss is that where man can sleep blissfully, may it be abode of peace or abode of happiness. It is the bed room. To speak the truth, bed room in house is like heart to the body. It is the place where most of the time is spent while in house. There are eight directions. Southwest is the most kind. (This matter is from www.subhavaastu.com). That is why it is better the elders made this their bedroom. Bed rooms can be arranged in southeast and northwest also. But elders of the home should sleep in southwest room as per vastu shastra. Young people can sleep in southeast room and youngsters can make Northwest room as their bed room, children should sleep in southeast room or at northwest rooms only. Wife and husband should not make the room in southeast as their bed room. If the house is big and more number of bed rooms are there first issue should sleep in south room, second issue has to occupy the southeast, third in western room, fourth in southwest, this is the best. Child means they are boy or girl. Mostly spare Vayavya(Northwest) bed room to Girls. And for boys spare Agneya(Southeast) bed rooms, for more information contact us, don't take your own decision, it spoils your child future
At Children bed room :
Bed should be placed at southwest direction and space should be come round the bed, its best method for children. If space cannot provide around the bed, then place the bed at southwest corner or south corner or west corner.

More vacant space should be left at north side
More vacant space should be provided on east side.

If at you have more children and if you want to provide more bedrooms to them, construct bedrooms at Southwest , South, West, Vayavya, Agneya, North and East sides, better leave the eshan (Northeast) corner, don’t construct bedroom at eshan (Northeast) corner. If it is compulsory to construct bed room at eshan corner then please get an advice from one experienced vastu consultant
Please observe is your child place head at North direction, please note that its very dangerous to their knowledge and memory power. Modern people pooh the warnings as superstition of elders voice, but after researches done by the scientists, then they accepts the facts and they obey their words, not our elder people voices. North placing head is not good as it has been proved truth scientifically. (This matter is from www.subhavaastu.com). This posture makes the circulation of blood to the limbs at a distance of heart slow. Sleep will be disturbed. It will cause headaches and in irritation and disturbances. The changes in circulation of blood effect the heart sensitively. Researches was done conducted jointly by scientific and technology institute and V.H.S Medical research institute of Chennai. By changing the direction of the head, joint pains and such health diseases may get cured. And so many invisible diseases will also be cured by placed head at south. These scientist project studied the effects of the changes in blood circulation by sleeping towards the east the research revealed that the changes that occur in circulation of blood by sleeping with head towards north will not occur if done so in the direction of south. Scientists studied the changes that come about during this sleeping posture in animals and humans. Subtle changes come about in the electric currents of the mind. (This matter is from www.subhavaastu.com). The Geo Electric Magnetic power influences the body. By changing the direction of the head we got all good things and health is also be good and pleasure. By this we understand the truth of our old adages. If south is not feasible east can be better. North and west are prohibited.

Bedroom Vastu Tips - Ideal Position for your bedroom
By Astrologer Dr. Prem Kumar Sharma
In India, Vastu Shastra is considered a sacred science that helps people live a stress-free life. According to Vastu, each direction has its own unique characteristics that get imparted to the various rooms of the house in those directions. Relying on Vastu for living in perfect harmony and keeping problems at an arm's length is even more important for the bedroom, where one retires to escape from the worries of the world and have a tension-free sleep. Thus, bedrooms also acquire Vastu characteristics to ensure harmony in the house.
Vastu Tips for Bedroom
A bedroom in the North : This is the ideal direction for young couples and also for storing valuables, important papers, cash, jewellery etc.
A bedroom in the North East : This direction should not have any bedroom since it is the sacred space of the house.
A bedroom in the East : The direction is ideal for unmarried children.
A bedroom in the South East : The direction is not recommended for having bedroom since it is the quadrant of fire and imparts a hot temperament to those occupying it. It also leads to constant quarrels between couples and incures excessive expenditure. Children staying in this direction do not take interest in their studies and finds it difficult to get a sound sleep.
A bedroom in the South or South West : The direction is ideal for having master bedroom and should be occupied by the head of the family. It should be larger than the other rooms. In case of a multi storeyed building, this room should always be on the top floor.
A bedroom in the West : The direction is ideal for students. However, it increases the probability of birth of a larger number of girls in the family.
A bedroom in the North West : The location is the best for newlywed couples.
Vastu Guidelines for Bedroom
Let us also explore the basic Vastu guidelines that have to be followed, in case of the bedroom:-
Vaastu Shastra does not recommend a bedroom in the South East under any circumstances. It is best to shift from this room to any other room in the South West, South, West or North West. In case there is no choice, keep the bed away from the southeast corner or you will be sleeping on too much fire. Sleep in this room with your head towards the South and feet towards the North to ward off the ill-effects.
Vaastu Shastra allows attached bathrooms towards the West or North of the bedroom. However, some suggest locating it towards the East, southeast, North or northwest of the bedroom. The door of an attached bathroom should always remain closed.
The ideal colors for the walls of the bedroom are light shades of rose, blue and green. The master bedroom and the guest room should be painted in different hues of blue for a good sleep. Marble stone should not be used in the bedroom of the newly married couple.
You can decorate the walls with attractive wall hangings or pictures that bring pleasure since this is what you will see the first thing in the morning when you wake up!
The correct placement of furniture in the bedroom makes one feel at home. Vaastu suggests that since bedrooms normally have heavy objects like beds, cupboards etc, they should be placed in the South, South West or West direction of the room. If possible, avoid beds in the centre of the room.
According to Vaastu Shastra, mirrors should not be located inside the bedroom as this leads to frequent misunderstandings and quarrels between couples. However, if essential, place them preferably along the North East wall.
It is best to sleep with the head towards the South or East direction of the bedroom. The South brings a good deep sleep and ensures long life, while the East brings enlightenment. There should be no window behind you, while sleeping.

How to help your children grow and develop in a positive way and enhance family harmony
There are no bad children, only bad behavior. Our environment affects our behavior. We know what to expect if we give our kids a lot of sugar or caffeine. They will bounce off the walls. We know what to expect if the temperature in the house is 90 degrees on a summer day. Tempers will easily flare. These are normal responses to negative stimulation that most parents know about. But what most parents don't know is that there is negative stimulation in the home that affects their child's behavior, their health and even their grades. This negative stimulation is invisible, however, it can be easily remedied using a combination of ancient Chinese wisdom and modern day science. Applying the practical techniques of Feng Shui and holistic living to your home will help you create a balanced environment. This will help your child grow and develop in a positive way and enhance family harmony.
Sleeping Direction
We spend the most amount of time in one spot every day in our bed, so the sleeping direction is very important. The goal is to align the child's bed so that the top or crown of the head is pointed towards one of their good compass directions . If your child's bed is pointed in one of their negative compass directions, it can throw their life out of balance. They won't be feeling as well as they should and they may express this with negative behavior. They may have trouble sleeping, difficulty accomplishing things, and can even have problems with others treating them badly or "bullying" them. Pointing their bed in their "wisdom" direction can help your child get better grades and improve their attitude about school. The "marriage and family harmony" direction will help decrease fighting and arguing in the household and help your child sleep better. Be sure to use a compass to determine actual compass directions in your home. (Related article: Positive Sleeping Directions for Couples)
Dark Bedrooms Are Healthier
Melatonin is a hormone that regulates sleep and mood. Melatonin is produced by the body at night, in the dark. Light makes the body think its daytime. If a light, night light, tv or computer monitor is on while your child sleeps, their body won't produce the natural amount of melatonin. This can create sleep disorders, depression, and/or anger and moodiness. Are you getting enough dark?
Exposure to EMFs
EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) are harsh energies emitted by electronic devices. They also decrease the body's production of melatonin. Arrange furniture so that your child's body is 2 feet away from computer towers, CRT computer monitors, and power strips. Keep them an adult arm span away from TVs. Never use an electric blanket or waterbed heater and don't let them stare into the microwave waiting for the popcorn! Stay 5 feet away while it's on.
Yin/Yang
Bedrooms should be "yin" or quiet. Things that can create "yang" energy in a bedroom are aquariums or fountains, live plants, and light during sleeping hours. Mirrors in the bedroom keep the room "awake" and can make it harder to sleep.
Negative Flying Stars
If you do not know the flying star energy patterns in your home, you can at least keep up with the annual stars that shift each February 4th. In 2011, the 5 Yellow star known for illness and accidents is in the east compass section of every building and the 2 Black star known for illness is in the south. In 2012 the 5 Yellow is in the southeast and the 2 Black is in the north. If your child's bedroom is in one of these compass sections, this can translate into more visits to the doctor, more frequent health issues, or health problems not responding normally to treatment. The 3 star which is known for arguments is in the north in 2011 and the southwest in 2012. If your child's bedroom is here, they may be fussier or get into more arguments.
What the Child's Eye Sees:
Look at what your child sees every day. A happy family photo visible from the child's bed is comforting to see before they fall asleep and when they awaken. It reminds them they are part of a happy family when they are alone in their room. Posters of kittens, puppies and favorite cartoon characters are non-threatening and comforting for the little ones. Get to know the meaning behind the images in your teenager's room and keep the cool "negatives" to a minimum.
Clutter:
Cleaning up after a small child is like shoveling the sidewalk while it's snowing. What's the point! But children do need a place to store their stuff to keep clutter under control. If a child's bedroom is also their study room, they won't be able to focus in a lot of clutter because clutter is "eye noise". Children should frequently clear out the space under their beds, which tends to become a catchall for trash and treasures and creates "stuck" energy. Need some help with your clutter? Check out Clutter Queen Boot Camp
Furniture Placement:
The bed should have its headboard against a solid wall. Make sure there is room to walk around each side of the bed - don't push one side up against the wall. Avoid placing the bed under a window or directly in line with the door. Standing in the doorway, if you can toss a ball straight ahead and hit the bed, energy flowing into the room will also hit the bed and this is not good for the child. What's behind your bed?
Color:
Your child's sleeping habits will let you know whether their room is comfortable. If you keep finding your child in bed with you, then their room is not working for them. Avoid using energizing colors like red and other bold, bright colors in the bedroom as they can cause tempers to flare during playtime and too much hyperactive energy for the little one to fall asleep at night. Bright colors are good for playrooms but bedrooms need to be more subdued. Pastels are best.
Creating a comfortable, harmonious bedroom makes for a good night's rest. And a good night's rest makes for a refreshed, healthy child.

Vastu for Bedrooms

Category: Vastu Shastra

What is missing corners in feng shui?:
Once a house is not a rectangle or square shape. that house is considered to have a missing corner or have protrusion as following picture.
When the house has missing corners, it implies that the certain imbalance is happening in this house. According to the Ba Gua theory, the manifestation of this imbalance can be the ominous to the specific people in this house. Our master has checked out a house that was missing the northwest corner. Our master diagnosed immediately that there was something wrong with the male owner in this house. The lady was so surprised, and she told our master that her husband was served in army, and after the second month they moved in this house, her husband went to Iraq. The missing corner is quite a hassle in Feng Shui cure; it is due to the dysfunction of body of house. Some Feng shui master would recommend placing feng shui item (such like crystals) as a solution to the missing corner, however; it doesn't work because the misunderstanding of the Kua number in Ba gua. Here we are offering some traditional feng shui cures for the missing corners; it could help to reduce the missing corner effect for the family.
How to cure missing corners / protrusion in a easy way?:
1. Corner in the east: In the original Ba gua, Zhen gua stays in the east region. In the aspect of manifestation in the family, Zhen gua represents the eldest son, males between ages 30 to 45 years old; in the aspect of manifestation in the human body, Zhen gua represents the liver, feet, voice and hair, etc. Once the house misses the east corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house. The traditional way is to place dragon in the missing east corner because dragon is one main manifestation of Zhen gua. Dragon belongs to water feature, according to the five element theory, water element produces wood element, and the wood element is the element of Zhen gua in the east! However, if the east corner protrudes, it also indicates an imbalance of Zhen gua, besides the health problems we mentioned before, people who living in a house with a bulge in the east get easily irritated and always have frictions, disagreements, even fights in life. For example, one of our masters had checked out a case with a protruded corner in the east for a young couple, their six year-old son always liked to stay outside so much, and once he got home, he became to be on nerve and behave mischievously. That is a typical example of imbalance in Zhen gua. The traditional solution is to place rooster in the projected east because rooster represents Xun gua, which functions as a mediator to ease the over developed energy of Zhen gua.
2. Corner in the southeast: In the original Ba gua, Xun gua stays in the southeast. In the aspect of manifestation in the family, Xun gua represents the eldest daughter, widow; female between ages 30 to 45 years old; in the aspect of manifestation in the human body, Zhen gua represents the thigh, buttocks, etc. Once the house misses the southeast corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house. For example, people living in this type of house easily suffer the sciatic nerve pain, if the interior design and outside environment are not well cooperated, it can be more serious. The traditional way is to place rooster in the missing southeast corner because rooster is the manifestation of Zhen gua. The protrusion in the southeast region causes diseases like cough, pneumonia, rheumatism, etc. The protruded southeast region is especially ominous to female. The traditional cure is to place dragon in that corner. Because dragon is the manifestation of Zhen gua, here the Zhen gua balances the ill developed energy of Xun gua.
3. Missing Corner in the northwest: In the original Ba gua theory, Qian gua stays in the northwest region; in the aspect of manifestation of the family, Qian gua represents father, male household, males over 45 years old, Chinese zodiac Dog people and zodiac Pig people; in the aspect of manifestation of the human body, Qian gua represents the head, chest, lung, large intestines, right foot, right abdomen, sperm and sexual organ, etc. Once the house misses the northwest corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house (such as high blood pressure, headache, insomnia, colon and lung disease, etc). People who living in a missing northwest corner house are easily obstructed and frustrated in life, their monetary fortune fluctuate and money always runs out for certain reason. According to our masters'€™ experiences, the northwest missing corner also affects the fortune of the biggest son in the house. People who living in this kind of house are hard to play the leading roles in their work and can't have a smooth development in their achievement. The traditional feng shui cure is to place horse in the missing northwest corner because horse is one main manifestation of Qian gua. However, if the northwest corner protrudes, it also indicates an imbalance of Qian gua, besides the health problems we mentioned before, this kind of house statue brings about lawsuits and metal injuries easily to the house members. The traditional cure is to place the Ox statue in that corner. Because ox is the manifestation of Kun gua, here the Kun gua balances the ill developed energy of Qian gua.
4. Missing Corner in the southwest: In the original Ba gua theory, Kun gua stays in the southwest. In the aspect of manifestation of the family, Kun gua represents the mother, female household, female over 45 years old, Chinese zodiac Ram and zodiac Monkey people; in the aspect of manifestation of the human body, Kun gua represents the abdomen, etc. Once the house misses the southwest corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house. For example, people living in this type of house easily suffer the stomach problems, appendix problems, beriberi, back pain skin disease and etc. If the interior design and outside environment are not well cooperated, it can be more serious. The traditional way is to place the Ox in the missing southeast corner because ox is the manifestation of Kun gua. But don't place the ox closer to the south region of that missing corner. Because according to the zodiac theory, the ox is against the ram. And the zodiac Ram is sitting right in the southwest but closer to south region. If the ox is placed in this part, it can't be functional due to the affection of zodiac Ram. Besides the problems that we mentioned before, the protrusion in the southwest region causes the digest system diseases and sometimes people who living in this type of house gets fat with a big belly. The traditional cure is to place horse statue in that corner. Because horse is the manifestation of Qian gua, here the Qian gua balances the ill developed energy of Kun gua.
The lady was so surprised, and she told our master that her husband was served in army. After the second month they moved in this house, her husband went to Iraq. The missing corner is quite a hassle in Feng Shui cure; it is due to the dysfunction of body of house. Some Feng shui master would recommend placing feng shui item (such like crystals) as a solution to the missing corner. However; it doesn't work because the misunderstanding of the Kua number in Ba gua. Here we are offering some traditional feng shui cures for the missing corners; it could help to reduce the missing corner effect for the family.
5. Missing Corner in the south: In the original Ba gua, Li gua stays in the west region. In the aspect of manifestation in the family, Li gua represents the middle age female, or the second daughter or females between 16 and 30 years old, or zodiac horse, etc; in the aspect of manifestation in the human body, Li gua represents the small intestine, eyes, heart, head etc. Once the house misses the south corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house, the people responding to the Li gua have bad health, and family members suffer diseases such as heart diseases, high blood pressure, eye diseases, etc. Especially for those corresponding female, they would also suffer a bad fortunate year in year of horse, snake and ram. The traditional feng shui cure is to place the phoenix in the missing west corner because phoenix is one main manifestation of Li gua. Phoenix belongs to fire element , which is the same element as Li gua and remedy the missing corner problem in the south.
If the south corner protrudes, it also indicates an imbalance of Li gua. Besides the health problems we mentioned before, the missing south corner means the excessive internal heat( Remember, Li gua represents fire), which are in symptoms as constipation, conjunctivitis, inflammation, scald, nasal and oral cavities, sometimes even the leakage of electricity is somehow associated with The ill development of Li gua. . The traditional solution is to place Roar statue in the projected south corner because roar represents Kan gua (water element) , serving as a mediator to ease the over developed energy of Li gua.
6. Missing Corner in the north: In the original Ba gua, Kan gua stays in the north. In the aspect of manifestation in the family, Kan gua represents the second son or the middle age son, zodiac rat; or the male between 15 and 30 years old; in the aspect of manifestation in the human body, Kan gua represents the kidney, bladder and urogenital system, blood, ear and anus, etc. Once the house misses the north corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house. For example, people living in this type of house( especially for male) easily suffer a bad health and career. The members easily have ear problems (like tinnitus, inflammation), diseases in kidney, and in the year of roar, rat and ox, people would encounter a tough year. The traditional cure is to place the roar figurine in the missing north corner because roar is the manifestation of Kan gua, and the metal element of dog can support the water element of Gen gua. According to the five-element theory, metal produces water.
The protrusion in the north region causes urinary system disease, prostate problems and menstrual cramps , etc. The traditional cure is to place the phoenix statue in that corner because phoenix is the manifestation of Li gua. Here the the fire element of Li gua balances the ill developed energy of Kan gua.
7. Missing Corner in the west: In the original Ba gua, Dui gua stays in the west region. In the aspect of manifestation in the family, Dui gua represents the youngest female, or the third daughter or females under 15 years old, or zodiac rooster, etc; in the aspect of manifestation in the human body, Dui gua represents the tongue, mouth, throat, large intestines, etc. Once the house misses the west corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house, the people responding to the Dui gua have bad health, and family members suffer diseases such as throat inflammation, tongue sore, toothache, etc. People have to fight with some extra debts, and members in this house easily have disagreements, dispute and gossips troubles. The traditional feng shui cure is to place the ram in the missing west corner because ram is one main manifestation of Dui gua. Dui gua belongs to metal element, and ram belongs to earth element, according to the five element theory, earth produces metal, so the ram can remedy the missing west corner.
If the west corner protrudes, it also indicates an imbalance of Dui gua. Besides the health problems we mentioned before, the missing west corner means extra costs and members lose inspiration to strive for work. The projected west corner also causes the frictions in male career, or makes the male in this house become mean and stingy even though they are influential. In addition, the west missing corner affects the relationship members and brings about health problems in lung and windpipe. The traditional solution is to place dog statue in the projected east because dog represents Gen gua, serving as a mediator to ease the over developed energy of Dui gua.
8. Missing Corner in the northeast: In the original Ba gua, Gen gua stays in the southeast. In the aspect of manifestation in the family, Gen gua represents the third son or the youngest son, or employees in a business, or zodiac ox or zodiac tiger; or the male under 15 years old; in the aspect of manifestation in the human body, Gen gua represents the hand and joint, etc. Once the house misses the northeast corner, there are corresponding symptoms happening to the people in the house. For example, people living in this type of house easily suffer the arthritics, scald and other injuries in hand and feet. If the interior design and outside environment are not well cooperated, it can be more serious. The traditional cure is to place dog figurine in the missing northeast corner because dog is the manifestation of Gen gua, and the earth element of dog can support the earth element of Gen gua.
The protrusion in the northeast region causes joints problems, back disease, susceptible nose, etc. The protruded northeast region affects the financial stability of members and drives the members into a conservative direction in career. The traditional cure is to place ram statue in that corner because ram is the manifestation of Dui gua. Here the Dui gua balances the ill developed energy of Gen gua.
DIRECTION OF SLEEPING AND RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MOTHER-IN-LAW AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW
There are certain rules mentioned for sleeping in Vaastu Shastra. Generally we don’t think much and sleep whatever way suits to us. But directions matter and should be taken into consideration as each direction has its own merits and demerits. If one sleeps with his/her Head in South and legs in North is auspicious. It is because head is North Pole in body and legs is South Pole. Sleeping this way, magnetic property of the Earth makes direct coordination with the body which results in positive and serious outlook in behavior. These two qualities are essential for long lasting and cordial relationship.
Joint families are being divided into nuclear units due to false ego and lust for materialistic pleasures. The major cause of this split in the families is bitter relationship between mother-in-law & daughter-in-law. There are many psychological as well as other methods which can help one to make these sensitive relations more cordial & sweet along with the Vaastu principles which can be proved very effective in this respect. In today’s scenario, when there are conflicts and splits in the family, to make a healthy society & family , the couplet written by the poet Rahimdas seems to be quite suitable :-
“Raiman Dhaga Prem ka, Mat Todo Chtkaye|
Tute Se Phir No Jude, Jude Ganth Par Jaye||”
Means, there should not be such situations created in the family, which break the thread of love because once it is broken it is very difficult to join it without having a knot in it. For unity / togetherness in the family other relations like relations between sister-in-laws younger and elder, (Devrani & Jethani) Nand Bhabhi etc should also be sweet & healthy than mother –in–law- & daughter-in-law. If one follows the principles of Vaastu while sleeping it helps one to maintain peace & harmony in the family.
The Correct Direction To Sleep
According to Vastu Shastra, if the head of the family sleeps in South direction then his better half (wife) also sleeps in the same direction. The position of head in South and legs in North while sleeping is considered auspicious. Human body works like a tiny magnet. The Northern pole of the body is head and Southern pole is legs and this position of the body when in sleep, controls the human mind. So many rays from human body and mind are controlled by the electronic effect of magnet. Head in South in sleep brings balance with earth magnetic influence. It helps one to have positive thinking and sincerity in behavior. Not only this, South direction enhances one’s self confidence and leadership qualities. If it is not possible to sleep with your head in South direction, in that case one can sleep facing his head in the East and legs in the West. If owner of the house and his wife or any other female in the family sleeps with head in South direction, that person becomes influential. Those ladies who stay or sleep in Agni Kona (South East) direction, they have difference of opinions with those ladies who sleep in South. Young male or female can sleep in Agni Kona only for short time. This corner is auspicious for study or research work.
When Mother-in-law & Daughter-in-law sleep in South
In residential house, South is the most powerful direction. That is the reason a mother-in-law should sleep in this direction. In the absence of mother-in-law, the eldest daughter-in-law in the family should sleep in this corner. If mother-in-law is there, in that case first daughter-in-law should sleep in South West, the second eldest in the East. Wife should sleep in left side of her husband in South direction. If arrangement of bed is made in Agni Kona direction, in that case, wife should sleep in right direction of her husband. Senior ladies of the family like mother-in-law or the eldest daughter-in-law should not sleep in East or Ishaan Corner. Read more.....
2012 Feng Shui Outlook Year of the Dragon
Pin It
The Year of the Dragon is a chance to start over and see real improvement in our lives. After the past few years of economic challenges, it’s nice to hear there is a ray of hope on the horizon. And it’s not just a sliver of light either. It’s like a giant comet streaking across the sky trailing sparkling crystals that glitter against the night sky. That comet in your mind’s eye? It’s a dragon, a cosmic creature that is associated with heaven, the sky and all the celestial realms.
With our heads looking at the ground and noses to the grindstone for the past few years, it’s hard to imagine that looking up the view will get any better. But it does, I’m happy to tell you. Of course, we have bumps in the road of 2012, but that’s to be expected. The better news is that the reigning star is a type of energy that bestows heavenly assistance from others.
The year reminds me of the old joke about the man in the house that gets a knock on the door and it’s the police telling him that a flood is coming and he needs to get out right away. But he tells the policeman that God will take care of him. A little while later a fireman comes to the house and urges him to leave before the water overtakes his home and the man tells the fireman that God will take care of him. Finally, the man is on top of the roof and a helicopter is lowering a ladder to let the drowning man climb up and instead he says God will take care of him. When the man goes to heaven he asks God why he didn’t save him and God tells him, “Who do you think sent the policeman, fireman, and the helicopter?”
This is the situation we are in for 2012.
There is heavenly energy and there will be people who will come to your aid – from near and far. The question is: will you reject them or will you accept their assistance? The problem is often not about not getting something we want, the problem is that we often stand in the way of receiving. We get in our own way even when someone is trying to help us. Vow to yourself that you will not only accept help, you’ll offer it, too, in the year ahead.
One of the best descriptions of this year’s energy actually comes in a book by a good friend of mine, Marc Sachnoff. He has written this very simple tale about how to get what you want in life easily and effortlessly and it’s called The Gift. But that’s the gist: you’ve got to receive to give and you’ve got to give to receive. But what’s important is the order. Many givers are bad receivers. This is especially true of women. We’re natural-born pleasers. Many women have the disease to please and it shuts them off from receiving. It sounds counterintuitive, but The Gift explains this clearly. Work more on being a gracious, open receiver.
Money
In 2012, money takes a hit. Investments and accumulated wealth hosts the Five Yellow. This is a time to get your financial house in order. If you don’t regularly check on your portfolio, investments, bank statements and taxes, it will come back to bite you. The southeast wealth corner is a wood sector, so it will help to dampen the effects, but if you don’t take precautions, it could cost you a lot.
This is also the corner that relates to the oldest daughter. Teen girls need to be careful this year. If your house faces southeast or your sleep in the southeast or work in the southeast sector, you’re under a stronger influence. Keep tabs on your health and don’t engage in risky activities like parachute jumping. If you rollerblade, wear pads.
But remember, wealth is just one kind of money. There’s accumulated money (southeast wealth sector) and generating money (north sector). There’s also opportunity money. I’ll explain more in a moment. In the sector of generating income, which relates to the north career sector, the news isn’t good either. It’s hosting the Black 2 illness star this year. That means that income could be affected by illness and there are financial implications too.
It also could very likely mean there will be limitations placed on your career. Think of the Black 2 as a giant boulder in the middle of the road. It doesn’t stop you from going where you need to go, it just might delay you or cause you to find a detour. That’s what could happen with careers. You think you’re headed in one direction and you take a sharp turn in another direction. And that’s not always a bad thing. In fact, it’s often a good thing in disguise.
The Black 2 presence could also mean limitations on income, such as commissions, bonuses and payments. You may find that you don’t get a raise this year or take a cutback of some type. These are just some of the possibilities of scenarios, but I did promise you some good news.
Directly opposite the north Black 2 star position is the White 1 star. Think of this as two giant titans squaring off because these are the elements of water and big earth – mountains and ocean. Who would win? I bet on the water every time. What this White 1 star means is that your friends, literally and figuratively, have your back next year. Not only that, but there’s a good chance there could be a glittering opportunity that comes directly from a friend. Don’t dismiss your friends this year; they might just be offering you a gold mine for a little digging.
Look for ways to grow through people you know – that’s the networking vs. not working concept.
Relationships
Here’s the other shoe dropping for 2012: relationships. The 3 Jade star is headed to the southwest sector of women, relationships and love. If you’re crankier, more tired and snippier than usual this year, then you know why. Big Wood (men) is visiting Big Earth (women) and it’s the feng shui fight equivalent to Mothra vs. Godzilla. I’ll let you decide who is who. But what I can tell you is that if you had relationship problems last year with small wood visiting, this is the year it all comes to a head. If you were working through problems last year, and many of you were, this could be the year when you call it quits.
Is that what you want to do? If not, and you want to work on your relationship, get counseling and seek out help. Or, make the call and end the relationship. Either way, make a move. The 3 star causes fighting and arguments. For women, it also causes crushing fatigue and exhaustion and will create problems with the stomach region such as digestion and the female-famous gallbladder problems.
Make sure you take vitamins, eat right, get some sunshine and exercise and plan for down time. I talk about this every year but it’s truer than ever. On the plus, side the three star could cause you to stretch and grow …and remember when you were a kid, the pains in your legs and arms when you were growing? It will be uncomfortable at times this year, but if things are moving head, just know that it’s “growing pains.”
For both men and women, red is the color of the year.
Men are hosting the 7 Red star and it causes deception and fraud, potentially violence. Men should be wary of credit card fraud, deceptive people, particularly men who live far away from them. Business proposals should be tightly written and reviewed by a lawyer. Women should also be on the lookout for “Mr. Smooth Talker” too. Get background checks and play it safe!
Who has the best energies this year?
In the list of all the directions, the east and west facing houses have the very best energies with a beautiful array of energies running from front to back in their homes. This is fabulous news, especially after last year! Better still? Houses whose front doors open in the center sector of the house. You’re in for some amazing news – like windfalls, heavenly people coming to assist you, and beautiful surprises. Careful not to overwork, though. South facing houses have difficulties because of the 3 Killings energies at the front (but the 1 star helps this) and the Black 2 at the back door.
These houses should be careful and keep the back portion of the house quiet. The southwest and northeast houses will fare alright in 2012, but the southeast and northwest houses need to take precautions. The Chart of the Annual Energies explains how to handle the 5 Yellow and Grand Duke Jupiter (at the Southeast houses) and the Red 7 Star (at the Northwest houses). These are some of the most difficult energies of the year. As a reminder, my book, 2012 Feng Shui Forecast, Year of the Dragon has in depth details of each house facing direction.

There are many feng shui ways you can use to mend divided marriages & infidelity
One of the saddest situations that can confront anyone is when love dies and the one we have pledged to love forever has moved on to loving someone else – especially when the moving on results in a marriage getting damaged, a heart getting broken, and children left confused and abandoned. That is when lives get changed forever.
In this issue, we focus on some of the ways feng shui can help prevent such a situation from ever arising. Feng shui is not just about wealth and getting rich. It is also about creating a loving and happy environment within the home, where the bonds between husband and wife grow stronger and the poisonous and tempting vibrations of infidelity never have a chance to enter.
When it comes to infidelity, the Chinese believe that prevention is better than cure, so all feng shui recommendations are based on creating an environment within the home where harmony, goodwill and calm reigns. Feng shui recommends the safeguarding of two important corners of the home and the correct placement of harmonious symbols in these corners to generate chi that is alight with husband and wife bonding energy.
Protect the Southwest & Northwest of your home
These are the two most important corners of the home - the Northwest and the Southwest - as they signify the husband and the wife, father and mother, patriarch and matriarch. They cannot be missing. If they are, the foundation of the family gets negatively compromised. It is only when both corners are present that the foundation of the family is strong. Then the yin and yang of the family can stay firmly bound to each other.
So the first thing to ensure is that these two directions - NW and SW - must exist in the home. If you are looking for a home or renovating your house in preparation for your marriage or for your son or daughter’s married life, you must make sure that both corners exist in the home.
Consequences of a missing Northwest
When the NW is missing, it suggests the husband or patriarch too will be “missing”. He either travels a lot as part of his work, or his work keeps him out of the house for an unnatural amount of time. Single women who live in homes where the NW is missing will find it hard to find a husband. When the NW is missing, it can also mean that the husband could leave the family and marry someone else. Another word for this is infidelity, but here the consequences are worse than infidelity, because when the NW is missing, it can cause husbands to leave the wife and family altogether and start a second family with another woman in another house.
When the home has a prominent, well-lit and significant Northwest, it enhances the energy of the man of the house and the home becomes an oasis of nurturing energy. The man of the family will always want to return to the home. Indeed, the moment he steps foot into his home, he is embraced by such warm, loving energy he will not want to go out. He feels his spirits rise, and a feeling of contentment overwhelms him.
Thus, not only should you ensure the proper existence of the NW corner in the home, you should also ensure that it never degenerates into a space which gets blocked by stacked-up old newspapers, cardboard boxes and other types of clutter. Energize the corner with lights and crystals, which brings strong earth element energy, which in turn enhances the metal element of the corner. Keep the area well-lit and tidy. Try not to have the toilet, storeroom or kitchen located here. Usage of the NW should be for productive and family-oriented activities. If you have a kitchen here, it brings fire at heaven’s gate fate.
When a toilet occupies the NW, it causes the luck of the patriarch to get flushed down the toilet. Should the store room be placed here, it causes the patriarch to symbolically get “locked up” which can mean being imprisoned – metaphorically or even physically. All three such usages of this corner bring a negative consequence, so the NW is best used as the living or dining room.
Those of you who are single will also benefit from strengthening the NW corner, as this is the surest way of attracting required male yang energy into your life. If you want a husband, make sure your Northwest is not missing or being used as a garage or toilet!
Never ever place pictures or paintings of sexy, sweet young things in your NW corner. Nudes are a big No No! No matter how artistic you think these look, remember that your marriage is more important than having expensive nude paintings in the home. When you hang them on the NW walls of your home, it simply creates the cause for them to manifest into the life of your husband (or father). Be careful – even as paintings, they can generate the energy of something you don’t want happening in your life.
All the symbols of infidelity should be banished from this corner. Thus make sure that when you display birds, dragons, horses - and all other auspicious objects - make them a pair or a foursome, never a threesome. You don’t want someone coming between you and your husband! Those of you who are already happily married, make sure you do not hang paintings of the beautiful peony in the Northwest (or in the bedroom). In fact, it is best to avoid placing flowers here altogether.
There are several ways to make sure a sweet young thing does not snare the patriarch of your family, who can be your husband or father. These days there are so many of these young beauties on the prowl. To many of them, even when a man is married with children, they do not mind being the second wife, especially when the man is rich and successful.
When yours is a lifestyle with many temptations for your husband, prevention is always better than cure. Trying desperately to look young and beautiful is NOT the complete answer. You also need to apply feng shui preventive measures.
It is necessary to keep the energy of the home conducive to the family staying together. With this in mind, here are the ten most important things to ensure to keep your husband happy and contented. Use any or all of these preventive measures in your home.
Make sure the Northwest of your home is not missing. If it is missing, install a very bright light in that missing corner and shine the light upwards. This is a temporary remedy and if it is possible, try to correct the missing corner by creating a room here.
If the storeroom is in the Northwest, demolish it and open up this area. This liberates the chi energy here and will make the couple of the house more loving towards each other. Then bring in a fresh coat of paint to give your relationship fresh new energy.
If the toilet or kitchen is in the Northwest, try to relocate them elsewhere. If you cannot relocate your kitchen, try to place the stove in another part of the kitchen. If you cannot relocate the toilet, then keep the toilet well-lit. Outside the toilet, place six all-metal windchimes. This will strengthen the Northwest areas of the house that fall outside the toilet.
Place large natural crystals in the Northwest to strengthen the metal element of the corner, because earth produces metal. This will strengthen the chi energy of the husband, making him tune inwards towards the family.
Place an all-metal coin tree in the Northwest to strengthen and concentrate the metal energy here. When you strengthen the Northwest this way, it not only safeguards your marriage, it also brings auspicious energy to the man of the house.
Take a family picture together with the man of the family smiling broadly and surrounded by his wife and children, then hang this picture on a Northwest wall. This is one of the best safeguards against the husband being taken from the family. It is a powerful feng shui tool and also serves as a subliminal reminder to the husband that he has a wife and family. Make sure that all members of the family look happy in the picture.
Place a raw amethyst crystal geode under the marital bed. There is an interesting ritual to this Taoist cure. Tie a red string to the amethyst and then tie the string to one of the legs of the bed, the one on the right side nearest your feet. The wife should sleep on the right side of the bed and the husband should sleep on the left. Make sure that the amethyst is under your feet and not under your head. This will bring good fortune to the couple and also ensure that the husband does not stray.

Do not have large water features, the kind that are dug into the ground as ponds and swimming or wading pools on the right hand side of your main front door (inside looking out). This causes the man of the family to develop a roving eye. Sometimes this can cause irreparable damage to the relationship between husband and wife, which can then lead to the break-up of the marriage.
Cover up all mirrors in the bedroom, especially those facing and reflecting the bed. Mirrors in the bedroom tend to attract an unwanted third party into the marriage.
Finally, for the year 2006, when the quarrelsome star flies to the center of the annual chart, everyone’s home gets afflicted by the hostile star #3. To ensure misunderstandings and fighting in your home does not get out of hand and to preserve the harmony of your home, place a crystal nine-tier pagoda in the center of the home. This MUST be placed on a small, elevated stand from where red light shines upwards bathing the pagoda with a red glow. This becomes a powerful cure against the center #3 star in 2006.
Remember that the #3 causes quarrelling between husband and wife, and it is this that jumpstarts the growing apart of a couple. Using anything red will suppress the negative effects of the hostile star. If you prefer, you can use a Laughing Buddha dressed in red OR you can hang a red mandala painting here. In 2006 however, the crystal nine-tier pagoda is the most effective.
Consequences of a missing Southwest
While safeguarding the Northwest, you should also safeguard the Southwest corner, as this part of the house signifies the family matriarch. The mother energy of the home is as important if not more so than the father energy. Without the nurturing care of the matriarchal energy, no home can be complete. Place all the symbols of love and romance in this corner. Remember that the Southwest is the universal corner for love and family. This meaning arises from the ruling trigram of the Southwest, which is KUN, and those who are familiar with the I Ching will know that KUN is the ultimate yin energy – always nurturing and always caring.
For single men who live in their bachelor pads, they must also ensure their Southwest is not missing. If it is, then it becomes difficult for them to find a good wife. The matriarchal energy is also required to keep the family together.

The flying star feng shui is based on the change of chi over time. Nine stars represent the beginning of the universe - nine numbers are commonly used. If there is a beam at the northeast corner of your house, your youngest son is always under pressure or has health problems.

Your house door is at the east side of the house. Your eldest son is seldom at home or he is away for school.
If you want to marry a good husband, you can place feng shui articles at the northwest corner (not southwest corner) so that you find your prince charming.
If your husband has external affairs, check if there are dolls or other female pictures placed at the southwest corner. His affairs are due to wrongful placement of too many female articles at this corner.
The trigram feng shui can apply to the office. The boss better sits at the northwest corner of the office so he/she can manage the company well. Or anyone sits at the northwest corner has more authority and power in the company.
If your company is missing the east corner, your company does not have good and skillful male employees as forecasted by the trigram feng shui. Even if you have, the male employees are sick most of the time or jump ship very often.
